Changing food I know when you change food for a puppy or dog that you need to do it gradually, but I'm wondering if that is just for the brand or for when you're switching to a different variety of the same brand? I figure I'll ask ahead of time, although so far so good with Charlie. But it seems like Yorkies can get a bit finicky with their food. He's not a huge eater, though he likes his occasional treats. |
What food is he on now and what do you plan on changing him too? I've never done the switching period. My Uni is so picky, she would just pick out the new stuff anyway. And for Katie. my foster, she was on Beneful, so there was NO way I was gonna wean her off of that, that was cold turkey. No tummy issues with us so far. |
We have been on Nature's Variety and we switch their formula each time and we don't mix in and never had a problem. We are now switching to Fromm that also has different formulas. We have been mixing the NV with the Fromm, but they just pick out the NV and leave it in the bowl anyway! |
I think it depends how the dog's stomach. Most dogs do not have a problem switching fast but then some dogs do. If you are concerned that she has a sensitive stomach then you can mix the two foods together for a week or so but if you think she can handle it (and especially if it is an adult food that has similar ingredients to the puppy food of the same brand) then just give her a whole meal of the new stuff. The worst you will have to deal with his loose poo anyway really. |
