How soon after tooth removal can you brush teeth?
 
Bailey had his upper canines removed yesterday, he is pretty well back to his self already, but I was wondering when it would be okay to start teeth brushing again? Thanks!

Armani had a tooth become infected and it had to be removed... he was placed on soft food for two weeks and the vet said to wait until those two weeks were up to start brushing again.

It was a pretty bad infection though had abscessed and broken the skin on the face, so this might have been the reason to wait so long.

So glad to hear the little imp is up and running around.:) Do you know if the vet had to really work hard on getting them out? I probably would wait the two weeks also unless they all just pulled out with the tweezers which some do. Moose had to have some cute out because they were so bad and had stitches..poor little guy.

Thanks Ladies :) Bailey has stitches, that is what the receptionist said anyway, I tried looking, but Bailey didn't want me too! I am softening his kibble, and think I have to do that for 2 weeks, but I'm going to call the vet tomorrow to be sure. Bailey has been chewing on toys and being his silly self, I hope he doesn't bust a stitch. It's so difficult to stop them from doing their every day things!

Armani had stitches too but they were the kind that dissolve on their own and I could never actually see them... besides feeding him wet food and not brushing his teeth I didnt do anything different and he was fine... he even played tug of war with his sister against my wishes :rolleyes: We also went on vacation 2 days after this surgery... it was already planned and was a family event... we have two vets in the family and one owns a hospital a few minutes from where we were staying so I figured what could go wrong?! lol... all was well....they seem to bounce back pretty quickly after these things... it worse for us :)

When Ellie had nine adult teeth pulled, it was 5-7 days of soft food/softened kibble and I think we started brushing after the recheck (two weeks).

If stitches, 2 weeks. If loose and almost falling out, a few days.
