At my wits end and need advice I am about to begin pulling my hair out when it comes to Sedrick and I do not know what else to do. Sedrick is my AAI/AAS survivor who also has gastrointestinal issues due to the massive amounts of steroids he was given after his neck injury. I know a big part of his picky eating is because of me always making sure he has something in his stomach otherwise he gets sick and throws up. I should also mention that after his injury we had to hand feed him for 10 weeks because he had to learn everything all over again (standing, walking, peeing pooping and eating) and because of the neck cast he could not bend to reach the food bowl. I have tried every type of diet out there and can get him to eat each one maybe (if I'm lucky) once or twice and then he either sticks his nose up at it or literally spits it out. I am driving myself crazy trying to find something he will eat regularly to regulate his system. I can get him to eat rotisserie chicken(but not the breast)but he is growing tired of it and is now almost refusing to eat it. I just tried him on urban carnivore(rabbit) but I have to let him lick it off my finger but he will only eat about 1/2 an ounce and then turns his nose up at it. He can not digest beef so I can not put him on red meat and fish is a something he always spits out. Does anyone have any tricks to getting a fussy, picky yorkie to eat or any types of food that I can try or a supplement to increase appetite?? Thanks a bunch |
Don't know if this will help but it's worth a shot...when louis was going through a picky stage I put cottage cheese over top of his kibble with a squirt of peach juice mixed it up and he loved it! Cottage cheese has protein and calcium in it so it wouldn't hurt him. Just wondered if you had tried that yet? Best of luck! Let me know if there is anything I can do even if it's just someone to vent to! Sometimes it helps! Have a good night and let me know how it goes! :-) |
Hi Mary I have tried cottage cheese but he does not like it(it does not have enough of a smell to attract his tastebuds) One of my biggest problems is trying to get him to eat without me actually feeding him by hand. I would love to be able to put his food down and if he does not eat it take it away until he learns that meal time is structured. I worry that by doing that he will get sick because his tummy is empty. Do I let him just not eat and hope that he eats when he is hungry? He has been through a lot in his short life and I panic when he becomes really picky and I try everything to get him to eat(some days I sit with him for atleast 1/2 an hour only to become so stressed when he only eats a few pieces of whatever). I know I am to blame for continuosly hand feeding him, but I need to change this and get him a more structured schedule. I am stumped:confused: |
How big is he? My 2 small boys don't eat much at one time but they eat several times a day. Have you tried canned food? Each day for breakfast and supper I give all of mine a bowl of food that is about a table spoon of canned food mixed with a little warm water, just enough so it mixes easier, and then about 1/4 of a cup of dry food mixed in and they always finish their meals. Maybe you could try some canned food just to get him eating again and then slowly mix the dry in with it. |
Sorry, I don't have any advice, but it sounds like you have alot on your plate and just wanted to say keep strong. :girl_hug: |
