My yorkie likes apples I know what they do to me...how much is safe and what other items (besides milk-bones) can I let him have to work on the SIT thing, then the STAY thing:) |
Bella likes raw baby carrots, raw green beans, apples, pears, and tangerine bits. She's not fond of bananas. O'wise, if I'm eating it, she thinks it's OK for her, too. She only gets bits - except for carrots and green beans. Puddie on the other hand, will grudgingly take a carrot, but prefers other treats. And don't EVEN insult him with a bit of apple :rolleyes: |
Apples are ok but I wouldn't use them daily or much at one time. Just a little piece of one is fine. For training try Cheerios. They are fat free, crunchy and wholesome to eat. They are also small. Also, Natural Balance makes several different logs and they come in many sizes also. Cut them into small pieces and put them in freezer bags. Take a bag out as you need them for training. When it's finished take out another. Always fresh and on hand. Yorkies love to train. |

Peas are great! Apples are one of the few fruits that Thor will deign to eat, as long as they are the sweet, juicy red kind. And he likes pears. I know a lot of people use Cheerios, but for me personally, they are too high in sugar / not natural enough. I suppose it depends on how much training you do, though, and the size of your dog. |

Cheerios for training... the sugar keeps 'em from going hypoglycemic on you! Mine eat just about anything that isn't nailed down..JK. Sapphire has developed a liking for peaches. They all eat apples, carrots, green beans zucchini, and noodles. I tried Gerber Graduates Puffs for training, also, bc Tink can't have too much protein. Also they come in Blueberry and Sweet Potatoe flavors, and others too. Mostly sugar, and no protein at all. (nutritionally deplete!) |

My guy loves bananas, if he sees me reach for one suddenly he wants to behave! He knows if he is good I break a piece off for him and he plays with it and then eats it. |
apples My Shellby LOVES apples. I have one most every day and she begs for pieces the whole time I'm eating it. She probably ends up with a slice by the time we're done. Is that too much? |
I can't eat an apple in front of Sammy because he goes crazy for them. I will give him a tiny piece with no skin. I give him a piece about 3/4 inch long and about 1/4 inch wide. Only two or three pieces like that so I don't upset his stomach. |
My miniature schnauzer Princess is the mighty apple hunter-when they started dropping off the trees in the yard she would go mad to get at them eating them core and all (we have little ones though) and she never had an issue. We use Zuke's Mini Naturals for training treats, you can also use plain chicken, fish etc you cook and cut into your own appropriate sizes. My dogs will eat anything that comes from my hand-even zucchini- apples are definitely their favorite but carrots, celery, potatoes, cabbage, romaine, green beans and peas, zucchini, basically all the vegi's we eat except for a lot of leafy greens and no onions or bananas (I see someone else uses them but my dogs missed a potty after having only a small amount of banana and I was worried about them choking after how they ate it-so if others do it I'd just be careful so you don't run into what I did) or anything that can be hard to chew. NO GRAPES OR RAISENS-they are dangerous (toxic) for dogs and don't ever give them seasoned meats. |

All three of mine love Apples...I can't give them very much, because it will cause loose stools, but they would eat as much as I'd give them! I also give them organic spinach leaves and green beans...All very small amounts 'though... |
