question, please help Parker has started teething. I was just wondering if they get sick while they are teething? He has vomitted a few times in the last week and today, he started getting diarhea. Is this just normal with teething, or could it be something else? I am off tomorrow and can take him to the vet but I just wanted to get some feedback first on if it is normal for them to get upset tummies with teething? I know there's alot of threads on teething already, and I did do a search, but couldn't find any answers. Sorry if this is repetitive. Thanks for any help! Tracy |
Neither one of mine had vomiting or diahrea when teething. I would take him to the vet because it sounds like something else is going on with him. |
By the way my vet told me that diahrea is always because something that has been injested in the digestive system. Once when Chachi was a puppy I thought he got it because of stress he said no. |
Did you change his food at all? That's what did it for Trixie. I started giving her different food because I thought she couldn't chew her regular kibble. Other than that, I'm not sure if it is part of teething... |
Princess didn't have vomiting or diahrea when teething. I would give your vet a call. Let us know how he is doing!!! :) :) :) :) :) |
Vomiting and diarrhea always warrent a trip to the vet - in my opinion. Rowdy sometimes will throw up, and that can be caused by overeating (when he was little) or eating grass (usually a sign their tummy is not feeling good) or ingesting some BUG or something like that. In the absence of diarrhea, I always wait on the vomiting and it usually resolved itself with no intervention. BUT, vomiting and diarrhea are my indicator that Rowdy needs to go to the vet. Also, how is he acting? is he eating? is he playing? does he act like he feels good or bad? Rowdy has had diarrhea (no vomit) for a day or so and did not act like he felt bad at all and I waited, and it resolved itself. But in our experience, vomiting and diarrhea always needed intervention. |
I dont know what it could be. But I hope hes better soon. Let us know what the vet says. |
Gucci never got diarrhea or vomited when she was teething. I think you should taking him to the vet. Please keep us posted. |
i've heard of teething being accompanied w/upset tummies but haven't seen it in my dogs. i've even heard floppy up & down ears blamed on teething. |
Well, I've had three chihuahuas and one yorkie prior to Kacee. None of the previous one's had any trouble at all. Along comes Kacee and breaks the mould. She had an upset stomach and a little diahrrea with it. She had quite a time putting it mildly. She was so sick a couple of days she barely got up and around. I knew it was her teeth. Mother's just know these things! ;) Thankfully her teeth are almost all through her gums now. I really felt sorry for her, because I have never seen one feel so bad as she did. My vet said they are just like children. Some have little or no trouble, while others have a terrible time with it. Of course, you should check with your vet just in case it is something else. |
Thanks for the feedback everybody Well I have been off for the past couple days and Parker has been fine, I guess he just wants to make things difficult on the days I have to work, haha. But seriously he's had no more runs, and hasn't thrown-up for at least 4 days now. I'm thinking maybe he's developed "carsickness" cuz now that I think of it, he threw-up in the car or shortly after. He's had problems with diarhea before and the vet can't find anything wrong, so I didn't want to be the parnoid mom calling the vet AGAIN. I would have called for sure though if things hadn't gotten better by yesterday. I tried giving him yogurt cuz I read that is good for their tummy's, not sure if that's what did the trick, but things have cleared up on there own. Oh, and someone asked how he was acting...and thats just it! He acts fine, he's still hyper as ever when he feels yucky, I don't get it  . So all is well, thanks again, for the advice and concern. God I love this site, everyone is so helpful:) |
