dissolvable stiches? Pixie was spayed 2 weeks ago on thursday , she still has some dissolvable stiches left. How long did it take for them to come out? I am dying to give the lil grease ball a bath but I can't until they fall out! |
Kacee had dissolvable stitches and it took a long time, but I can't remember how long before they were finally all gone. I don't think it was weeks. It may have been a month or so. It's been too long now...;) Anyway, there was one stitch I could feel for the longest time and I didn't think it would ever go away. |
Piper didn't have any stitches at all on the outside. Her incision was glued and was completely healed within 2 weeks. |
my boys were just neutered, and we were told that we had to wait 7 to 14 days to bathe them. They too had the dissolvable stitches. So far it looks like they're healing super fast, but I will probably try to wait the full 14 days. |
My Kayla and Karlee were spayed 2 weeks ago too (April 6th). They had dissolvable stitches on the inside, and I was told to wait 10 days to bathe them. They healed very nicely, no redness, infections, or separation, and I actually gave them a bath on day 9, |

Oh I wish Camden had dissolvable stitches. She has to have her staples out this Saturday. I'm going to probably have to leave the room because I will be a mess! :( I recall Wrigley had them when she was spayed though and I think it took a few weeks. |
Disolvable stitches can take as long as 4 weeks to denigrate in people. The longer they are in, the more likely they are to become infected, though. Don't try and remove them yourself- it ups the risk of infection. If you are concerned, call your vet and get his/her opinion. As for bathing her, how about a sponge bath on her back and legs. I would avoid using the dry shampoos available because the powders in them can get in to unhealed incisions and lead to infections. |
I had my two girls spayed one month apart. Same clinic, but surgery performed by two different vets. Moka was first, last February. Her surgery was a bit more complicated too. Her outer incision is completely healed and can barely see her scar. However, I can still feel her "disolvable" stitches under her skin at the incision site. It feels like plastic under there and it feels like it will poke through her skin. They are dissolving though, just very slowly. Last night I thought they felt more like they are going away. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it. Mylee had her surgery just last month and I don't know what her vet used but her incision is completely healed and I don't feel anything at her incision site. Even though I can feel Moka's stitches, I am not worried about bathing her at all. I just watch her closely for any signs of worry unitl I cannot feel them any more. |
Cerise had was spayed the day after your baby and she had the same type of stitching. I bathe her on this past Sunday evening. My vet told me to wait 10 days. |
I called the vet and he said it was ok to bathe her today. YEAH!! she got bathed and smells wonderful. She was so excited afterward I think it made her feel good:) |
Keep an eye on those dissovable stitches... Maddy had those as well and one stitch never did dissolve. My vet had to take it out, about a month later. They say sometimes they just don't dissolve! |
That happened to my Priscilla. 8 weeks down the road and the dern stitches were STILL undisolved and hanging up on the tuile (felt like a straight pin). I just couldn't stand it another day, so I took her back to he vet and she manually removed them all. So annoying. I wish I had done it sooner. If only I had known about the glue! I knew they use that on humans but next time I'll ask for it. (hopefully, no more surgeries in her future). The scar looks fantastic and she's ready for bikini season. |
