dry skin i dont know wear else to turn this is driveing me crazy.my chi mix was chewing herself the vet said it was a allergy so we had hr tested and yes she was allergic to eggs so we cut eggs out of her diet(i home cook) and then when she did not stop chewing i called the vet again he said the dry skin made her itch put a cone on her so i did well the skin never recovered all the scabs healed but the hair wont grow back and her skin is still really really dry ive been putting a little olive oil in her food (vet suggestion) but still nothing is helping she is going on four weeks with the cone because if i take it off she will start to chew again any advice would be great thanks |
If you give her Heartworm Preventative, I would switch and use Revolution for 2 months. I would also get her some coconut oil for her food and coconut shampoo/conditioner for her skin and coat. It's a natural antibacterial, antifungal, pest deterrent among a long list of other beneficial properties. Also, eliminate chicken from her diet (#1 allergen) then look at the grains. Also, change any food/water bowls to Stainless Steel. Discontinue any use of air freshers/ plug-ins/carpets powders etc. And anything else that may effect her environment. |
no heart-worm preventative(do we need it?) they wont eat chicken we give them beef and tofu i will look into the grains i have a pet fountain but i can put it away for a few weeks and see if it helps both the boyfriend and i have asthma so no air fresheners of any kind but boiling lemon and Cinnamon i will get coconut oil and try that Thanks |
Does the skin have a cracked, raised look to it... almost like elephant skin? A what are the main areas of her body that are affected by the itching? Does it get worst after she eats? |
I can make a suggestion...might work for her, might not, but it's easy and worth a shot. Try adding some Flax Seed oil (not meal) to her food. It's actually very good for dogs (and humans). It's good for skin, hair, eyes, and studies even show that it has cancer fighting agents. You can get it at most health food stores. |
I have been using fish oil and can see the differance. |
