I need to ask about apples Our dog Lacey loves apples. I dont mind feeding them to her at all. I usually cut about a quarter of a macintosh, peel it and cut it into small cubes and hand feed it to her. I know there is a good amount of sugar in apples but she is active. I guess my main concern is these an reason to limit feeding apples to her? |
I let mine have peeled, cored apple bites too, just not too many - I'm afraid very many might cause an upset tummy. Usually I take about a quarter of the apple and divide between my 3 that like apples. |
My 3 love apples as well and have had no adverse effects. I take a half for me and the other half gets cubed and divded by three. |
my baby loves apples too... i just dont give them 2 her every day maybe 2 a week .... are can she have more then that ???? not sure but she loves them |
my 2 love apples. I usually share with them my own , little pieses, but it is not an every day thing . |
What about applesauce? Is is ok to give my baby just a little bit (teaspoon) even if it has cinnamon in it? |
I gave Roxie a few little cubes of apple...and then she threw up a few minutes later. We won't be doing that again :( |
Apples are fine for dogs whether with the skin, or without, depending on whether they are organic or not.( Non-organics are sprayed with pesticides that remain within the skin.) Apples contain valuable fiber and vitamin C, both of which are required for healthy pets. Apples are also high in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids which promote healthy coats in our pups. Clinical research has also found that apples are involved in controlling skin allergies. The only part of the apple you must not give, is the core and the seeds as they do contain cyanide. As you stated, they do contain carbohydrates( ~ 16 g /apple), but the amount you are giving them (16/4=4gram which roughly equals around 16Kcal.) is not very much. As long as your dogs are not showing signs of GI upset, through diarrhea and vomiting, I would say, continue letting them have their healthy special treat. |
