No lepto!!! Hi and congratulations on Chloe! As far as when to get her next shot, you need to know when/if she had her first round yet; they are typically spaced 3-4 weeks apart I believe. But I must say, please, please tell the vet NO lepto in the distemper injection!!! My Rocco had his second DT injection (1st was before I got him) at 10 weeks, and it included the lepto vaccine. Within 5 minutes of leaving the vets' office (max. about 10 min after injection), he was vomiting profusely in the car. I only live about 3 miles from the vet, and by the time I got home, he was absolutely listless when I picked him up - like a ragdoll - and his eyes were glazed over but scared. By the time I got him into the house, he was having diarrhea, and vomiting again and could barely walk!! I called the vet and he said to give him Children's Benadryl immediately...he waited on the phone. Then he told me to check him gums / eyelids for pink (they were), and listen to his breathing (it was normal). I had to watch him like this for the next 12 hours to be sure he got past this reaction. The vet said that can happen sometimes with vaccinations, and it's usually the lepto that causes that bad of a reaction. He just had his last DT this week with NO lepto and didn't have a single reaction. Oh, and he had a huge lump at the injection site the first time too that took about 1 week to go away. |
hey thanks for that. i had a wee cassie a yorkie but she past in jan she never got that injection until she was older which was her yearly booster. i dont think lepto injection was around 9 years ago coz cassie had dhppi one. so which injection she i get chloe then and how many injections coz it a long time when cassie was young.for me to remember. chloe is 9 weeks on wed. |
Welcome and congratulations!!! I would ask the vet when she should get her shots but like Roccosmommy said no lepto. My vet marks all of mine's file with it in big letters. Some of the breeders on here should be able to give you an idea on when the shots are done. |
Hi...in the UK you can have the first jab at 8 weeks or so, the second a fortnight later and then they're safe to go out a week after that. |
Congratulations and welcome to YT. Sounds like you've been given good advice. |

hey well chloe got her first shot last night it was the dappi + LC I told the vet about yorkie talk coz she looked at me as if i had too heads and told me that all pups that had come here get lepto. i go back in four weeks for her next jab. she said that if chole doesnt have the lepto she cant go out. so im lost what to do. the shot last night has made her sleepy today just. |

There is always great debate on YT surrounding the Leptospirosis vaccination. Here in the North East, we have numerous cases of Leptospirosis coming in, so the shot is definitely recommended if you plan on taking your pups out at all. While in other locations in America, cases are at a minimum. Leptospirosis has flu-like symptomology, which tends to fade and then reappear. However, liver and kidney destruction could be significant. Not to mention, Leptospirosis can be transferred to humans, and this is cause for alarm when you have children or immune-compromised individuals within your home. When I got my two the shot, I had the vet give them both steroids an hour before the shot. This will help to counteract any negative immune response. Leptospirosis is carried not only by wild animals, but cats are also carriers, and they do not show any signs or symptoms while infected. JVMA has also issued warnings about the longevity of the bacterium. So say an infected animal urinates on the grass in your front yard, and morning dew develops on that spot, your pups can acquire the bacterium from the dew that has become infected. I would definitely check within your region to see exactly how many cases there are, and then weigh the facts. However, if it is demanded, then I would definitely suggest the steroid, and staying at the vets after the shot for about 45 minutes just to make sure that there are no after affects that need to be addressed. Best of luck |
thanks i think i will get the steriod the vet did say that she could get chloe this so when shes gives the injection for lepto she would not have a reaction. i think that is the best way. thanks again you all have been very helpful. |
