When to spay? I am sooo confused. I have heard so many different things/opinions. Not sure what to believe. My little Reyna is 8 months old and little under 3lbs. Should I let her mate and have little puppy before spaying? is it really better to spay before their first menstrual cycle? I'm afraid of her personality changing if I have her spayed...do they really change a lot? Any info on the whether to spay or not would be great. I'm a really confused mommy right now! :( Thank you! |

There are alot of great people on YT and breeders who can exsplain it all to you and not to mention all the other complications. As for as spading her you really need to talk to your vet. Welcome to YT you will love it here!! :) :) :) |
Breeding a girl your babies size would be very dangerous to her health and could possibly kill her so for heavens sake no please don't consider breeding her before she is spayed. Your vet should be able to advise you when she should be have the procedure done since we don't know her history. Spaying does not change their personalities a whole lot in my opinion. |

Here is a link to some good info on spaying http://www.mylittlemia.com/spaying.html |
If you were a Breeder and knew what you were doing it would be very different. But she is very small and it could be very dangerous to her health. You wouldn't be able to breed her untill she turns 2 because she is so small. I think it's best to have her spayed, and leave the breeding up to the Breeders who have the experience needed. They do not change because they were spayed. They are still the fun loving babies they have always been. :) |
Thank you! that website is VERY helpful and informative. I love my little Reyna so much...I don't want anything to happen to her. She has an appt Nov. 12th to get spayed and have her 2 baby canines out. Thanks for the advise guys! |

I am in no rush to get Brady spayed. She is 4 pounds 11 ounces and 11 months old. I definitely do not plan to breed her. I will definitely have her spayed within the next 6 months to a year but like I said I am in no rush and my vet said there is no rush either. If she does have a first heat before she gets spayed it's ok. It is a hard decision...I think you know when the time is right to do it. |
Jade and Mitsou have been spayed when they were under 3 pounds and everythings went well . It is much too risky to let a 3 pounds have puppies . |
Maddie-Rudy, I waited a while thinking Reyna would grow a little more before I had her spayed...she has stayed the exaaaact same weight for like 3 months haha. So my vet said its about time if I wanted to do it...and of course gave me the pro's & cons. do visit this website...very helpful http://www.mylittlemia.com/spaying.html good luck =) |
Trixie was spayed about two months ago, at 6 months. Her personality has not changed AT ALL. She's the same energetic, but sweet girl she's always been! I got her spayed right away at 6 months (she was a healthy 5,5 lbs-er). I knew if I was not going to do it right away, I'd just keep putting it off. I figured 'we might as well get it over with'. And I thought I heard somewhere it's better to do it before they get in their first heat. |
