Advice needed for Yorkie with gas..... Hello All, I hope you can give me some advice and if you have seen this problem before; basically my Yorkie seems to keep suffering from bouts of stomache cramps and what I think is wind. He seems to pace up and down, looks in some pain then he stretches out and it seems to go off then it happens again. He has these sympyoms/behaviour for a couple of days then it goes off and he seems to eat okay. I did take him to the vets and she checked for pancreatis etc. but this was clear; she advised premium special dogfood which I am now feeding him on. I still give him a little bacon and a few treats every now and then. He has improved but is there anything else I can do and is there something I can give him for his stomache pains if and when they happen again. I wish I could stop this altogether. You advice will be greatly appreciated as this is rather upsetting for both of us. Thanks Lisa |
Sorry your little one is suffering from pain. First off bacon is a no-no. Much too much fat for a Yorkie. I would think it's diet if nothing else has been found by the vet. Table food is not good for these little ones. Veggies like carrots, greenbeans, peas are good but please no bacon. If the new food is not helping much, I would try another until you see a difference. Gas is painfull even for a human. There are several good high quality foods on the market. Perhaps a one source protein one would be good. One with only one source of meat or fish. I'm sure others will have some good suggestions for you. Good luck, poor baby, |
Hi. You can buy some Mylecon at the Grocery store in the infants section. It contains simethecone, which will quickly dissipate the gas. I would also recommend getting him on a probiotic, can really help with digestive issues. |
I would not feed him bacon...Yorkies have a very hard time digesting it and it has a high fat content. I don't feed my gang anything but dog food and a few vege's but I am comfortable with boiled chicken as some members do. I think you need to just feed him quality dog food and quality dog food treats for awhile to see what happens. Good Luck. |

 Goat milk or plain goat yogurt, both a natural probiotic. 1 tablespoon of milk or 1 teaspoon of yogurt, a day should help. OP: what are you feeding him? |
I must agree with the posts above.. NO to bacon... nothing fatty and heavy.. I mean, even my stomach hurts after eating bacon :) and YES to veggies and yorkie specific treats... boy, do they love them! Welcome to YT and look forward to hearing more from you :D Keep us updated with what happens... If you need advise on good dog food, there are many posts you can search for in YT - very detailed and helpful. |
Benebac is great, you can purchase it at PetSmart.....it's a probiotic. Someone else mentioned Mylecon....something I keep on hand for my newborn pups, wonderful stuff. |
I am feeding him a high quality kibble and wet food as recommended by the vet. He is a very fussy eater, highly strung and I just love him so much! Is this a common complaint with Yorkies? He is only 4.5lbs and eats very little despite my best efforts. |
I give Samy a spoon or two of yogourt per week and he seems to be doing great... I also eat yogourt every day as I have bad stomach acid problems hahaha |
You see the vet said low fat bacon was fine........ It seems such a shame to limit his diet so much but if it keeps him pain free then I have no choice. He hates veg by the way which is a shame. I love Yorkies so much but they seem to be very delicate. I live in the UK so there isn't the choice here as in the US I think. Should I see the vet about a probiotic because I don't just want to give him any thing then it does more harm than good. has anyone else had these problems with their pooch? |

I put the raw vegetables in a food processor and grate them in very tiny pieces to sprinkle in with Cerise's cooked food. This way she gets them and they are too small for her to pick out and shove to the side. |

Ooh I should have highlighted the part I was responding too...LOL :) I would not give bacon. I only cook chicken, turkey, lamb, lean beef and fish. No pork. |
