Heartworm and Flea Meds Close together? Someone mentioned in another thread but I didnt want to hijack that you shouldnt give heartworm meds and flea meds close together... is this true? No one has ever mentioned that and I have always given them around the same time, sometimes even the same day  I used frontline plus and interceptor if that makes any difference. Thanks! |
The major problem is starting them on the same day. If there was a reaction, you wouldn't know which one caused it. It can also spread out the toxic load a bit, but then Frontline stays in the skin. No reactions, then not a problem to give them together (IMO). |
I do not know for sure as I'm nowhere near as experienced as others, but I would think not. Not only do most people administer both at the same time, but there are quite a few products that give heartworm AND flea prevention in 1 pill or shot. Some examples: Advantage Multi, Revolution, Sentinel.. maybe others but I can't think right now. Sentinel is highly used and Revolution is popping up everywhere as well. I never heard except today in the same place as you about administering them at the same time being bad. Maybe someone else has more insight on that. |
Since both are toxic chemicals, I space them out. I do Interceptor the 1st of the month, Advantage the 15th. |
Post number 9 on this thread from last year. I know I have seen later posts the past couple of months on the same subject. I'm searching YT for those posts. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...flea-pill.html Hope this answers any questions for now. |
We do our Frontline on the First of the month, and Heartguard Halfway through the month on the 15th. |
