High Bile Acid Level? I'm looking into getting a new 14 wk old Yorkie puppy after I lost my other one in December to CRF. I don't want the same heartache to happen again that I had to go through with my Brody so I asked the breeder if she'd get a bile acid test for hereditary liver shunt. She agreed and her vet did both the 12 hr fasting test and the one after he eats. The pre test came back as 1 and the post test was at 38. I know that normal is supposed to be 15-25 and that that post test can be slightly higher than the pre but regardless is supposed to be under 25. It's not terribly elevated and the breeder's vet supposedly said it could've been from stress or a number of other factors but I'm not sure whether to trust it or not. I realize that they could get a liver shunt at any time but I'm just trying to rule out the hereditary form. Any help/opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Lily |
I would highly recommend you join this group and ask them all your questions....they are very knowledgeable and in touch with vets that know about this issue. My Teddi is a liver shunt dog (she successfully had surgery 2 1/2 years ago but they helped me tremendously on that site). Good luck. Yahoo! Groups |
Thanks for the info! I'd heard about that group before when I was looking into getting a rescue dog. My computer broke at the time so I forgot about joining it so thanks for the reminder! :) |
