Has anyone heard of Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried raw food?
 
I was given a sample the other day & my very picky, 4 month old pup absolutely loved it. The package says that it is certified pathogen safe and raw. They are little freeze-dried patties in a ziplocked bag. It says you can add water to rehydrate them. I'm wondering if I should start my Oscar on this food because as of now, he eats so little that I don't know how he survives.

Yes, I have heard of the freeze dried, although I feed mine raw (and they love it, too)...I wouldn't use the freeze dried, all the time, as it isn't as nutritious as the raw...I think, even the website suggests only using it temporarily for traveling, showing, etc.? I will buy the freeze dried, if we have to evacuate for a hurricane, or something like that...

Their website also has frozen patties. Do you think those may be better?

Oh yeah, definitely...you lose something when they freeze dry them...have you tried a store locator, to see if there is someone close to you that sells Stella & Chewies?

We do have a store near here. That is where I was given a sample of the freeze-dried patties. I will have to see if they sell the frozen as well.

Another reason I like S & C is the patties are 1 1/2 oz., instead of 1 for a 5 lb. dog...I guess it' the same calories, etc., as the ounce in other brands, but it's like they get to have a few more bites...On S & C, you need to look at the bag for amounts to give, based on the protein..Like Duck and chicken is 3 patties a day for a 5 lb. dog (or 1 1/2 each meal, for my kidz) and Beef and Lamb are just 2 patties a day (1 at each meal, each)...I know ppl order through the mail, but that scares me...I need to show up at the store w/my little cooler, in hand, to take the food straight home, and put in the freezer...

S&C is a great food. I work at a pet boutique in Manhattan and we recommend it all the time. The frozen is definitely more nutritious and a lot more affordable than the freeze dried and like a previous poster said it is really mostly for travel or when you won't have access to a freezer. Raw food is great for skin and coat health and overall well being. Stella's is my favorite brand because they test all their batches for pathogens where as some brands don't. Also, in the two years (and probably much longer since then) that I have been working at my store there has never been a recall for Stellas. You can really feed it with confidence.
