Collar vs Once a Month Treatment (Flea & Ticks) With the weather getting hotter, I'm looking to get flea & tick prevention. I used the one Banfield gave me but I don't feel too comfortable using their product now. (I've bought different heartworm meds for various reasons) But I will say I didn't have any issues with First Shield product or at least none that I'm aware of. Now.. my question is which would be better? Collar or those meds you apply on the body? What are the pros and cons? I'd appreciate any thoughts you guys can share. Thanks!!!! |
Never use a flea collar unless you're going to supervise your pup 24-7. When Turbo was a puppy, the lady that was taking care of him for me put a flea collar on him & he almost died! He tried to take it out & it got caught in his mouth. He ingested the toxin & went into shock & had seizures. They took him to the ER & Thank God he was ok after treatment. I've always used Frontline (even tho I hate to, but we get bad flea problems here) & never had any problems. I apply half a dose & apply the other half couple of days later. If you have one fur baby, make sure the medication is securely contained in a glass container away from the sun. Then the other half can be administered later. |
I second that, never use a flea collar!! You know they are so close to their face and they are constantly releasing that toxin, it is so unhealthy and dangerous for them. Plus they don't work effectively so it really is a waste of money. |
I agree with above posts -- no to flea collars. They are a health hazard and I believe they caused my Airedale to have a cancerous tumor in her mouth. I don't have any scientific evidence to prove it, but I would never use a flea collar again. |
