Microchipping and Cancer??? i just posted a link on the tatoo thread but thought some would miss it so is this true as it is circulating throughout my dog groups and has me concerned since i have 3 that are microchipped :( I have read it for a while now so just wanted to see if anyone else had read this or experienced it since microchipping is so common these days? Dogs suffer cancer after ID chipping |
 Is this real?! I just had Cerise microchipped on Friday and never heard of this happening :( I pray that I didn't cause any harm to come to my baby. |

This means that Scotty has a reaction to injections, and if your dog has a reaction to injections, you might want to avoid microchipping. I just want to add; I'm always suspicious of an announcement such as this where no names are given. Vets are glad to give their names, but when it's done like this, it's impossible to check the source. Remember microchipping has been around for twenty years, and is considered one of the safest procedures out there. We will hear more and more stories like this because the AKC is mandating that breeders chip their dogs, and many states are trying to pass mandatory microchipping laws for commercial breeders and commercial breeders are fighting this, and they believe that if they can scare enough pet owners, they will help stop these mandatory microchipping procedures. I hope the people of YT are savvy enough to see the truth. Please talk to your vet if you have any concerns, I have read all the studies, and there is no reason to be alarmed. |

also is there now a universal scanner that is used? as heard that not all chips can be read depends on what scanner the vet has so is this still the case? also not once has a vet scanned my dog why do they not do this as routine when a dog comes in as obviously i am the owner but what if someone stole a dog do they do this just on new clients? |

I think Microshipping is a . You just have to remember there's alway's that slight chance of some sort of reaction but it's like anything else. |

I think it would stop these thiefs from stealing dogs but then maybe they would not be cared for if they got sick :( a double edge sword i guess |

Yorkietalk member my2boyz said that she's has had a two dogs returned because they were chipped, dogs who have no identification have only a 10% chance of being returned. So the benefits greatly outweigh the risks. |

Here are a number of articles you can read. In 2005 (I believe) a bill was introduced to micro-chip all animals but it was lost because at that time their was not a universal chip. Each company had developed their own and would not realize any information to the others so it has created at least 5 different companies with 5 different readers. So if you animal is lost and the shelter finds them but doesn't have the correct reader then the information cannot be read. There is now a universal chip/scanner but to my knowledge a new bill has not been introduced. This is going on in many countries of the world and is not just a cat and dog issue. All of my animals are micro-chipped with Home Again. I think people need to understand who can read what chips in their area. I also believe more harm has been done because of vaccinations then micro-chips at this stage of the game.
