Vet Help I'm a newbie and have only posted a few times, I've had Kobe since July 09 and he's had the same vet since i got him. But I dont really like the vet, the techs or the office. Everytime time we go we see a different vet, I have yet to see the same vet twice. The ladies at the front desk are rude and make it seem like your bothering them when you ask a question. So my question is, how do I go about finding a vet that meets my needs (being picky) and Kobes. Any advice would be great... I'm lost.:confused: |
First of all welcome to YT!! Finding the right vet is more important than finding the right doctor (in my opinion). I explain this by telling my perspective puppy owners...I can tell the doctor my symptoms and where it hurts...your dog cannot. So vets need to be able to LISTEN to the owners. If you vet does not listen to what you say he is missing half of the puzzle. SO if you are not happy find another one. Ask pet owners that you know and trust if they would recommend their vet. Ask on her if anyone is from your area and has a great vet. I LOVE my vet. I met him about 10 years ago, when I came in he first introduced himself to my dog, pet him, and then shook my hand and asked me what I knew about my dogs issues. He listened to everything and asked me many questions. I learn something from him just about every time I go there (at least twice a month). I trust him fully. They are out there, you just need help finding them. Hopefully a YT Floridian will come on with a great vet...good luck in your search.. |
I have gone to the Vet themselves, checked out the office, listened to how they responded to other patients and actually spoke to the Vets. That is how I made my decision. I love Twinkies new Vet. She takes the time to answer any questions I have, whether they are silly or not. I hope this helped. Good luck! :) |
i've heard of going and sitting in the waiting room for a while, and just observing what goes on...seeing how the techs interact with patients and owners, and watching the receptionists on the phone and in person...if you feel comfortable setting up an appointment, then do that, and if you don't like them after one appointment, try a new vet when it's time for another. good luck! |
I am onto my 4th vet (and hopefully my last) in 10 years. I hope you have luck and find the right vet and that it happens right away. My advice is to move on right away if you're not satisfied. I stayed with my prior vets for years before moving on and I wish I had changed vets sooner. We love our new vets so I suppose in the end it turned out ok. |
