Can a 12 week old have yogurt?
 
Mya is refusing to eat... she'll eat a few wet pieces of kibble and then she stops. She's maybe had 5 or 6 full pieces all day, and I've been trying to get her to eat hourly. She still is doing ok, lots of energy, and she is chewing on Oliver's bully stick right now - obviously not getting anywhere with it as she's too little. Ollie gets a small teaspoon of plain yogurt on his meals, as he's a picky eater too... but I'm not sure if it's ok to give a little of the yogurt to Mya at this age? With all the bacteria (although I know it's good bacteria) in it, I thought I should ask some of the more knowledgeable people of YT. She must be eating enough as she's still pooping, but it just doesn't seem like enough to me and I'd like to see her eat a little more today.

Any thoughts would be so appreciated!

I'm not sure, but I'm sure someone on here would know. I THINK your lil girl would have gotten some nutrition from the bully stick though.

Yeah, she's not getting to chew on it for long though, Oliver keeps stealing it away! He's a tad jealous, lol.

We have been giving our dogs a little Plain " low fat or no fat" Yogurt every day for years. THe large dog gets 2 tablespoons, and the Yorkie gets just a little dolip....Not sure what age she was when I started, most likely around a year or so. I did give it to the Corso when he was still a pup. Never a problem.

Thanks! I use non fat plain Yogurt and it's actually really helped Oliver's digestive issues. I swear by it. I didn't plan on starting Mya on it this early, but if she won't eat I'll need to eventually do something. She can't live on nibbles of bully sticks and nutrical forever.

I don't think it will do Mya any harm. I give Sophie a small amount of low fat yogurt once in awhile and she loves it. Maybe a tad would stimulate Mya's appetite. If she is not lethargic she may just not be hungry and will eat a little something later when she is. They have very small tummies at her age.:)

I have given Pixie Yogurt at about 4 months old she loves it for a treat. I just make sure I get the organic with no aspartime in it or artificial junk.

Have you thought about mixing in some wet food with her kibble to entice her to eat. I did that for a while with Pixie bc she wasn't eating her kibble but as soon as I added wet puppy food and mixed it in there she went nutts for it!!

She is sleeping a lot, but puppies do that, right? I'm sure coming to her new home has likely been hard on her, so she just might be a little nervous still and not hungry. She's played a bit with Oliver, has stolen most of his toys and hidden them where he can't get to as he's too big :D and is now resting on my lap. I think I will give her a bit for supper and see if that helps any.

It's not organic, I tried that and Oliver wouldn't touch it, but I do make sure it doesn't have any artificial sweetners, it's made with plain old sugar.

Yes, puppies that age do sleep a lot because they tire out easily after a play session. If she's hiding Oliver's toys she's not too hungry to think clearly,lol;)Pretty smart little girl:D

You can also put a lil wet on your finger and let her lick it off, if she really isn't eating. I am sure she will go for the wet dog food though bc it smells and they love smelly things. lol

Yogurt is okay as long as no allergies to dairy. Better for digestion would be: Nature's Farmacy: Dogzymes. Provides much more good bacteria and enzymes (proteins) that help break down the food. Your dog's body won't have to work as hard to get the nutrients out of the food.

You might want to get some nutrical for puppies if she isn't eating...... you don't want to have problems with hypoglycemia.... nutrical will help.

I have some, and have been using it, thanks :) I just really want her to eat and not need it. She's just over 5 pounds (at 12 weeks! Yikes!), so I don't have to worry about her as much as most yorkies. I still do though.

The yogurt worked beautifully, she ate 8 pieces of wet mushed up kibble with a little yogurt for supper, and just had a bedtime snack of the same. I'm kinda guessing on how much to feed her, need to talk to the vet about it when she goes in for her 2nd set of shots.

Thanks again for everyone's help on this one.. I feel a lot better and will sleep better knowing she has a full belly!

One thing that we found out about bullies, we used to give it to them during day and hubby said that we should restrict them from that since they were not eating. Once they did not have access to the bullies, they seemed to eat a lot better. :) Just a thought-it's worked in our case.

Yeah, I was going to say that at 12 weeks, I was still soaking Roxy's kibble. She ate it just fine. It was another couple of months when I offered her both till she was eating mostly the hard stuff. It's worth a shot!
