Dry Skin Suggestions Zoey is 13 weeks old and her skin is kind of dry. The vet noticed it when I took her in for her second shot (first shot was from the breeder). My other yorkie never had dry skin. Any suggestions on this problem? cherie |
When my furbabies get dry skin I put a little virgin coconut oil on them. Maybe you could try puppy shampoo with oatmeal in it. Hope this helps. |
Our vet told us to try fish-oil. We just started using it a few days ago, and I started a thread on it, and it seems to have very positive results:) |

Omega three fatty acids in fish oil help by building healthy moist skin cells, they also help in reduction of inflammation that occurs in dry skin. Water is also very important in maintaining healthy skin. If you think your pup is not drinking enough, you can always add water into their meal boost their daily total. Hope this helps.:p |

Do you add the fish oil to the food? Some tabs are way too big to swallow. Do you use tab or liquid? Thanks for the replies. Cherie |
organic coconut oil internally works as well |

I use the Omega 3 from Nordic Naturals. I nick the tab and squeeze the fish oil out onto Daisy and Teddy's food. They seem to like the taste too :D |

I have had Zeus on fish oil for almost a year. He has the shiniest coat and I haven't seen dry skin flakes in so long. |
I use Flax oil with Omega 3. They sell it at my local Kroger and healthfood store in the cold section. It's a bottle that i just keep in the fridge. I add about 1/2 tsp to about 1 1/2-2cups of hard food. It helps ALOT!!! The hair looks super soft and shiny too. |
I use fish oil as well and I thought the same thing that the pills were a bit large until I dropped one and my baby gobbled it up and chewed until she got the oil out and spit the capsule out wanting another one. Another thing I do for here is after bathing and when I place the conditioner on her I add some vitamin E to my hands and rub in real well before I rinse her. She looks a bit greasy for a couple of days but it disappears and the dry skin has greatly improved over two shampoos. I will use less of the vitamin E on the next washings. |
i suffer from a lot of skin problems cuz i have lots of allergies and dry skin, and it just so happens that my bella-chewy is the same way. personally i try to use things on me that are natural and safe, i look up if its safe on dogs and stuff so i use it on my yorkie too. first off bella had some sort of dandruff dry skin problem, i put a couple drops of tea tree oil in her doggy shampoo it helps fight watever is irritating her and its amazing on hotspots. cleared that up pretty well. i also used a couple of drops of vitamin E oil in my hand with the shampoo (infused with Tea tree oil) for some extra moisterizing. makes her coat shiny. if you put too much tho it looks greasy. im filipino and i think my mom would flip if i used her precious fish oil on my dogs. =D hahaha. shes already freaking out that my dogs have their very own jar of peanut butter. |
