Help! I think I ruined my Snorkie puppy... I think I've ruined my Patch (Snorkie) as when I first got him he would eat his dry dog food just fine, but now (now that I've been mixing his dry dog food with tidbits of what we eat...chicken, hamburger, etc.)...he has no interest in even eating that anymore (EVO dry mixed with tidbits)!! :embarasse Do you think there's a way I can either revert him back to eating his dry food like he used to (hint: he's a real beggar now and anytime we have a drink or snack he wants some too).... or is there a Raw Diet recipe I can prepare for him that is tasty enough that he'll willingly eat it that nutritious too??!! Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. :thankyou2 |
Same thing happened to my Holly and I got her back on dry food. I just left her food out all day and sat with her and hand feed her till she was back to her own self. LOL Spoiled little girl! |
Who on earth would be so co-dependent on an animal that they would sit and hand feed just to get them to eat? I've never heard of such a thing in all my life. Excuse me while I grab another handful of kibble for Princess Priscilla. |
I was told by my vet that dogs will not starve to death. It will take long even a day but they will eat. I don't think is a good idea to feed them yourself, you might have to be gone or have to leave him with someone else. Then they might get depress if they depend on you for everything and your not there. Just my opinion. |
May I ask...what is a Snorkie? |

But yup -- I would just leave dry food out and don't give any human food. He will get hungry eventually. |
Thanks everybody for your input. So you think leaving the food out all day is the trick or should I make it available to him 2-3 times per day for about 30 mins each? What do you think?! |
Yep, a Snorkie (and this is the correct spelling),...is a Schnauzer/Yorkie mix! |
Another thing I saw Ceaser, yes I'm a Dog Whisperer fan, do is to keep them away from where you eat. So keep them away from the table or off of the couch while you are eating. Also, don't look at them. Just eat your food, clean the table, and act like nothing has happened. He will eventually get hungry and eat his own food. It will be hard but you have to stick with it. If you show any attnetion, it is rewarding his behavior.... just like giving him human food is. Human treats are fine every once in awhile but they have to be given at different times than meal times otherwise he will associate that with table scraps and beg. |

That would be me Jeanette Tamaura. And the reason why I did that was because she did not eat anything for 2 days not a kibble nothing she could not lift her head and did not want my girl to die. But then I would do this again if I had 2 because that is why I gave her a home to love her and spoil her because she is part of my family and trust me I'm not the only crazy person here. Thanks for your comment |

I was told the same thing but got scared after 2 days of her not eating and she was not lifting her head but that only lasted 2 days now she goes nutz when I give put her bowl down. LOL |
This thread has helped me so much because I am going through that now with Jade. She will eat her own food when she is good and ready but everytime anybody sits down to eat anything her nose starts going and she sits right there in front of you waiting for you to drop something. I try to ignore her but she is so darn stinking cute!!! |
My 2 cents on the subject. I do not think a Yorkie puppy can go without food for two days...they are not the same as a larger breed. You need to be careful what your little one eats...could have way to much fat content and salt if you are feeding him part of your dinner. I feed my dogs first and then I sit on the couch and eat my dinner...I can sit and eat steak, chicken anything and no one is begging from me because I have NEVER given them any food off of my plate. I can even have them on my lap and they don't do anything and I am talking about 6 Yorkies. I leaned the hard way with feeding dogs from my plate.. I had a very large lab that was eye level to me when I sat on the couch...and he would just sit and stare..it made dinner miserable for me because I started this bad habit when he was young.. |
Cindy do you have any idea why my girl stoped eating for well almost 2 days she would drink water but no food maybe there was something wrong with her tummy? I just hope it does not happen again. |
It's sad every time I ask for advice or make a comment someone makes me feel stupid Im here to learn because Im not a pro. I think at one point you were all like me and you had to start somewere. I think we are all here for a reason so I stead of making me feel bad help me be a better yorkie owner. |

Where did I talk to you to make you feel stupid.. When someone gives their 2 cents, it is just their opinion..take it or leave it... No one is picking on you... May I ask how old you are? |
No I'm not talking about you cindy. I'm talking about the nasty person that pm me she was very mean to me but that's ok because I might know other things that she doesn't and I'll be able to help her out. Sorry if I made you think it was you Cindy. I have read alot of your posts and I know you would not make anyone feel bad. Thx for your help. |
Oh Sorry...I was banging my head on your post...thinking what the heck did I do this time...:p If someone sends you a nasty pm and it really upsets you you can report them to the moderator..people are not allowed to be mean behind the scene's either..but remember sometimes people just get passionate about certain things. It is really hard to understand everyone's emotions written on a forum and what someone really meant.. Of course if they do and you don't want to report them...in your next post, please say you received a pm and you didn't appreciate what was said...You had this old battleax confused...now don't tell Alaska Mike about this conversation...He will tell you I am confused all the time..:p:D:p |
LOL. No I could never say anything about you. You are the kind that like to help so be sure I'll be asking you for advise. Can I? |
Oh by the way I'm 35 LOL |
OMG I just went back and I sound like a 13 yr old!!! Sorry ppl!!!!:D |

LOL thats funny. |
You could try mixing in a little watered down wet dog food and then gradually decrease the amount you give. I used to mix in a little grated cheese to help my old dog (a Cocker Spaniel) eat his food. (I too made the same mistake in giving him people food) I even had to hand feed him for a time. Actually, I've hand fed all the dogs I've had. I hand fed my Morkies after I got them because they were nervous about the long plane ride and being in a new place. I was worried because one of the biggest things the breeder said was "make sure they eat" because small dogs get low blood sugar if they don't eat and they could die. :animal36 |
Wow I'm glad I was not the only one hand feeding. You make me feel better. I thought I was crazy for a minute :D YAY!!!!! A California girl saved me!!!!!! By the was I'm originally from LA, California and God I miss the weather. |
Mmm...... looks like my last post went to a different thread. Somebody asked how they could help their dog eat her dry dog food after spoiling her with people food....(none of us do that, do we?? he he) Anyway, I was reading the advice when someone suggested to hand feed her. Once again, someone criticized a Yorkie Talker's suggestion by basically saying "who in their right mind would hand feed their dog?" (not word for word) Why does there need to be hateful remarks on a site where we're here to learn and make friends. |
That was me hand feeding my princess you are the right thread lol. Yeah I got criticized by someone but thats ok I love my girl. |
