You may have only given him a very little amount, but he is a very little dog. It doesn't take much to throw them off when they are so young and small. Being "young" has nothing to do with whether or not milk is ok for them :confused:....

Anytime you feed them something different, even if it's a different dog food, research it FIRST. It's just good common sense. :)

Sounds like you are doing ok with this little one!! In time you will figure out what's good and what's not.....There's always something new to be learning! You will have a great life with your baby!! :)

I'd like to offer another piece of advice. There's a sticky at the top of the Health/Diet section on foods that are dangerous for dogs. Please take a few minutes and look it over. I was amazed at some of the things on that list that I never knew could be toxic to my babies.

:thumbup: So true. There are many foods and plants that I wouldn't have known about if I hadn't read a list first.

Lots of great advice, I personally don't believe in giving anything besides dog food the first 3 months, so many dog treats are even bad for them. Yorkies have week intestinal systems anyway, and they don't do well on new foods. Allergies won't show up till after a year, but I believe the less variety the first year the better. Lots of human studies show that babies are less likely to develop allergies if their diets are limited the first year. I know you want to show your love through food, most of us do anyway, but it's really not good for your dog. I did use unsweetened Cheerios for training purposes when Joey was about 3 months old, and he had no trouble with them.

I do give Cerise goat yogurt and have occasionally given her a tablespoon of goats milk and she has not had any problems from it. I only drink goats milk and eat goat yogurt. She also likes the goat cheese. Goats milk and diary products are not the same as Cows. They are the healthy alternative and are digestible.

Yes, you're right, I've even read of some breeders giving goats milk when the mother has died, and they have to hand feed the pups. Although I've read that many YT members give their dogs plain yogurt made from cow's milk, and dogs are able to digest this ok. Do you find goat's milk at a regular grocery store, or a specialty shop?

I have given Sophie a tiny bit of plain yogurt as a "special treat" and she loves it and she has had no side effects. I thought a little extra calcium might help her ear tips stand.

Only at Whole Foods or other specialty grocery stores here. The goat yogurt is delicious and I use the milk with my cereal and in place of cows milk for baking.

I think milk would only be dangerous if the dog was lactose intolerant, right?

Where do you find goat yogurt? I need to find somd with active cultures so I can make my own.

I think after puppies are weaned they don't need milk, and cows milk is different than their mom's milk. I think most will get diarrhea from milk, there is just no need to give it to them.

If you make your own, couldn't you just use regular plain yogurt with active cultures as the starter, and add goats milk, to make goat yogurt?
