Question on Mulberries This will be Arabellas first spring with us and we are trying to stay ahead of what could be potential disasters. Our neighbor has a large Mulberry Tree with limbs that over hang into our backyard. Every year we have the same issue of the fruit falling from the tree and smelling like rotten wine. It attracts flies and insects. Not to mention the lovely dark purple dye stains on my deck, carpet and Bailey's paws. We have never had an issue with Bailey eating the berries but Arabella will pick anything up (we are working on this). From everything I can find it says mulberries aren't poisonous to dogs but I have found post by pet owners that say their furbabies became sick after eating the berries. Has anyone had any experiences with mulberries? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
I would think Mulberries wouldn't be poisonous to dogs because of all the other berries they can eat, blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, etc. Maybe the dogs that have got sick from them at too many? The only experience that I have with them (besides knowing they are a huge mess) was to make my very first pie using mulberries (30 years ago).....it was a disaster! DH ate the pie filling...or at least tried to:p Maybe your neighbors would agree to trimming the tree back? |
Every morning when I take Teddi for a walk she eats berries on the ground. I have no idea what kind they are. Some are the purple ones and some are red but they come from the huge trees and she always grabs one or two before I catch her. She has never gotten sick from them. I have also heard that dogs shouldn't eat avocado skins and my dad and sisters dogs always eat the avocados that drop from the trees...skin and all and they are never sick. It might just be if they are used to it or not. |

I'd also like to say how totally jealous I am that you live somewhere that avocado's just fall off of the trees! |
We have been trying to get the neighbor to cut down the tree for eight years. We offered to replace it with another tree that doesn't drop berries. No luck they don't want to be without the shade. |

Both my parents and my grandparents have huge avocado trees in their back yards so we always have avocados! |
