Picky Eater any suggestions Hi Everyone, I'm new to this and I've been looking at some posts and they have been really helpful, so I’m hoping you guys can help me out. My 8 month old Yorkie, Tiger is such a picky eater. When we first got him he’s was on canidae and he stopped eating it after my parents start giving him human food (chicken and rice) so then I finally got him back to dog food (eukanuba) but I’m trying to get him a better quality food. I went to a local pet store that specializes in holistic, natural, and organic foods. They were kind enough to give me samples of so many different types of food but I just do know which one to keep my little Tiger on. What I've been doing so far is putting some canned dog tripe on top of the kibble so he'll eat it but I want to stick to one great quality dry kibble that he will love. The samples they gave me are: California Naturals, Innova, Merrick, Sold Gold, Fromm, and Lotus. Out of these brands which one would you think would be the best for my Tiger. I Love him so much and I only want the best for him. Thanks! |
Welcome!! I use to live in Skokie now in Gurnee. I feed all of mine California Natural and even my picky pom (RIP) loved it. |
What is that store called that you went to? I live in Streamwood. Anyway, I feel your pain! I switched from Canidae to Innova and now Kimchee is sick of the Innova. I mixed in Innova wet food which worked well for a while. Now she's sick of the wet food as well! Anyone have any ideas of what else to supplement her food with? I don't want to switch her kibble because she had such a hard time switching from Canidae to Innova (diarrhea). |
OP: Just wanted to make sure you have also been getting responces in your other thread with same question. :) |
Those are all very good brands, they might also carry Orijen and Acana. They don't make those in free sample sizes, go back and get the .88 lb bag if they have it. |
My picky dog loved the flavor of Fromm and Nature's Variety Instinct. We currently feed Acana and I love the food, he loves it, so it works for us. :) |
8 months is when Bailey got real picky about her food - we had the same dilemma - so we switched to a balanced homemade raw with lean hamburger, sardines, cottage cheese, eggs, rice, etc. She's been a little piggy ever since! Let me know if you would like to try it and I'll send ya the details. |
I love Artemis Fresh Mix Small Breed Puppy. It's a 5 star rated kibble. It works great for my 4 month old girl who is very picky when it comes to kibble. I thought about Orijen, but IMO the protein level (40%) is really high for little dogs and it's better suited for larger breeds, in comparison to the 28% protein level in Artemis. The protein level is also lower than most other brands mentioned. Acana is 33%, but the meat content in Acana is lacking in my opinion. Innova and Merrick look good too. I haven't tried those, but the ingredients look pretty decent. The nice thing with Merrick is that you have a wet option too. If you email Artemis they will ship you samples to try and a large amount of samples too. They are very very generous. I got about 2 months supply of samples (25, 3 oz bags)!! |
