Sooo confused about vaccines From what I read in the Vaccine issues. The core vac. DHP and rabies are the only necessary ones unless the other ones are needed for other reasons. The vets office told me my 3 yorkies where due for the annually vacs. I also read they weren't necessary after their 1st birthday. It is a state law here for rabies once a year so I have no choice in that manner. Do you get the DHP yearly for your furbabies? |

I called today to set up an appt. for Daisy to get spay. She was 1 yr. old this past Dec. and weighs 3lbs. The lady that answers the phone says she is due for her rabies and the vet can give it to her the day she is spay:eek: I told her NO. She said they probably wouldn't spay her til she has it. Her spay is Apr. 9. I am taking her this Fri. for her rabies. This makes me wonder about the other shots. The people that work up front do they really not know??? You would think they would know just about as much as the vet does because they are there everyday. |
The conclusions that you came to are right. Puppy shots, one year booster, then you and vet decide schedule after that. No choice on rabies. Some give them yearly. Some every three years. Some only when low titer occurs. And still some stop after one year booster or after a few years of age. My girl is done with vaccines except for rabies unless I change my mind. This is not what I am recommending for someone else. It is what I think is best for her and her vet has allowed me to do it this way. Some vets will refuse to hospitalize without certain ones up to date. |
It's sooo confusing. I got Jackson his puppy shots (DHPP) (he had DHLPP for his 2nd set of shots, but had reaction to the 'L' or lepto). He got 3 rounds of puppy shots, 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks. He got the Rabies vaccine around 20 weeks. He received his last pup shot in Feb. of 2009... so I just got him updated this March of 2010 for this yearly boosters of DHPP. Now he is good for 3 years according to the vet, but I personally don't think he needs anymore for a while. Rabies by law here is every 3 years. He also got the bordatella spray up his nose because we go to dog parks a lot and are around a ton of other dogs, and he goes to the groomer. |

We do the three year Rabies. Everything else we titer for... they wont get anything until they need it. Bordatella we dont do at all... it doesnt work on all strains anyway, so I dont find it worthwhile. You need to just read all the research and decide what works best for you. |
Ava just got her last shots at 4.5 months-- the Distemper combo is said to be good for 3 yrs (apparently that's new)....??? |
