First vet visit I just bought a 8 week old over the weekend and she already got her first vaccination shots at 6 1/2 weeks. The shots included canine distemper, adenovirus type 2, parainfluena, and parovirus vaccine. She got dewormed 3 times. I think she needs 2 more sets of shots at 12 weeks and 16 weeks. BUT one vet clinic said she'll need shots at 9 weeks, 12 weeks, and 16 weeks. I had a funny feeling about this because every other vet clinic said she needed 2 more sets, not 3. Anyways, I am wondering what I need to know before I go to the vet clinic. It's my very first visit for the puppy and I am getting an examination and will have to schedule her future appointments for vaccines. |
she shouldnt have had any shots until 9 week old, this may be why the one vet is saying 9 weeks. Be very careful with her, getting shots so early and being removed from mom so early increases her chances of getting diseases like parvo. |
I read about the disadvantage of the puppy having her shots early afterwards. I didn't think much of it when I bought her. Didn't do enough research. The seller already did them when I bought her, can't go back :( Hope she'll be okay still... |

Her chances are increased for Parvo, which just means you need to take more precautions, it doesnt mean she WILL get it.... I would keep her inside as much as possible and make sure she has no contact with other dogs until she has finished all her vaccines! If you do this and keep her areas very clean... you can get through this just fine! Good Luck with her! :) |
She's the only puppy at my house. She was with a lot of different dogs when I bought her. There was a shih-tzu, chiuaua, yorkie, and maybe more but those were the only ones I saw. I'll just make sure I keep her inside in my home. Thanks for the information! |
congrats on your new baby. Until she has her shots just keep her home and away from other dogs and people who have sick dogs of course. She will most likely be fine. |
What's done is done, so I'd go with 10, 14, and 18 weeks. They should be given about 2-3 weeks apart and shouldn't be stopped until 16 weeks at the earliest (18 is preferred). So only giving two more sets at four weeks apart would leave pup finishing at 14.5 weeks which is too young. |
