so do dogs sweat or not? i learnt that dogs dont have sweat gland, then how come since it's much warmer now, every time after a walk, duncan kinda stinks... |
I've read that they do sweat some through the pads of their feet. Not sure how accurate that is though.... |
Just did a google search and this is what I found: "Yes, they do. Dogs have 2 types of sweat glands. The first type is called merocrine glands. These are located in the foot pads of dogs (and cats) and function to help cool the animal. The second type is called apocrine glands. These are located on most of the rest of the dog (and cat) but they do not function to cool the animal. Their purpose is to release pheromones." |
That's right, they have a few sweat glands, mostly on the pads of their feet, but humans have them all over our bodies. Dogs pant to cool themselves down, and that's why they can't take high temperatures as well as humans. Make sure your dog has plenty of fresh water when it's hot, and never leave them in a closed car. |
how should i deal with the smell from a walk? Quote:

Wow, I have never thought my dog smelled after a walk....I did now that they pant to cool down since they don't sweat for that reason, but I really never knew they had sweat glands. Learn something new everyday! :animal-pa |

Mine get stinky outside smells too from walking. I just use a conditioning spray when I brush them, it's good for their hair too. |
