Need Food Suggestions My little one had one bout of pancreatitis. My vet said she can go back on her regular diet now that she is better. I was feeding Innova but I feel it may have been too rich. I need a good quality low fat food for my baby. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also good low fat treats too. Thanks :) |
My dog is on Natural Balance food and treats. |
Hey! I know Natural Balance is low in fat and protein. Charlee Bear dog treats (Charlee Bear Dog Treats, nutritious and delicious dog treats.) are also low in fat and calories. |
After our dogs second bout with it years ago, vet suggested Iams Low Residue kibble. We mix a little of the can with the Kibble...No problem since.....You have to get it at a vets office I believe. |
I recently went to Blue Buffalo Small Breed Life Source formula. My girls really like it. It is 26% protein and 15% fat. |

I use the Natural Balance potato and duck for small breeds. My furbabies love it and I make all the treats for them myself.:animal36 |
Barney just suffered from pancreatitis at almost age 10 -- it was his second acute attack (first one was at age 5). I consulted with a veterinary nutritionist who advised us. My poor baby has to eat home cooked roasted chicken for the rest of his life. Not that he is complaining yet but I think he is going to greatly miss his treats. pancreatitis is scary, I never want to go through it again. $1200 and extreme stress not to mention the pain I saw my dog in was enough for me to donate my bully sticks and throw away all my treats. :( |
Yes, the treatment is very expensive and quite scary. Our little Yorkie has had 2 bouts of it, but has not had it in years since we switched her after the vet said IAMS Low Residue Kibble and Can. We also give her the Iams Treans in the Green Box...no problems. What did your Vet say? I hope she never has another bout of it. Ours in almost 13 years old now, and as long as we mix in one teaspoon of the Can with the Dry Kibble. |
Innova makes a low fat version, but the kibble is a little big. You can always try California Natural Lamb and Rice Small Bites it's 4% lower in fat and made by the same company and not as rich. |
