Oxalate stones now what to feed? Topper had bladder stones which the vet determined were calcium oxalate stones. He wants me to put him on Hill's u/d but after reading ingredients I really don't want to use it. He is a very picky eater and I have been rotating between Evo 95% meat and Primal Raw. I opened a can of u/d today and it smelled horrible. I can't imagine my baby eating that! Any suggestions? I tried a search but the information I found was older and I was hoping there was updated info out here. Thanks Tammy |

Thanks. I am going to see if I can find out what ingredients are in the other foods listed because this u/d food is nasty. The cat even ran when I opened it. My poor baby would starve if he had to eat it forever. Right now I am missing a small amount in with his raw and sometimes he eats it sometimes he spits it out! |
Urolithiasis-Calcium Oxalate in Dogs too high of protein can cause this did they do a full blood panel and rule out liver disease as that runs in this breed and can contribute to stones Natural balance vegetarian works for dogs with stones how old is your dog? Thank you Debbie. Topper is 3 1/2 years old. The vet diagnosed a UTI and put him on antibotics for 4 days prior to surgery and then followed up with them afterwards. He removed 3 stones after X-rays showed they could not be passed due to size. I don't know if the doctor did any other testing, he didn't mention it and I don't remember seeing anything else on the statement. He probably has been on protein overload as he has been eating Primal Raw and Evo 95% meat. He is so darn picky, he won't touch anything if he can see or feel a vegetable!!! I thought I posted a reply but it isn't here so if this post twice sorry. I wanted to thank you Debbie for your information. Topper is 3 1/2 years old. I don't think he did any other testing he didn't say anything about it and I didn't see anything else on the statement. I am sure he has been on protein overload as he has been eating Primal Raw and Evo 95% meat! He is so picky and has texture issues. If the food isn't just mush he will spit it out. I have been mixing some of the u/d in with his raw nugget and when he gets a piece of rice he will spit it out. How he can do that and not loose the other food is baffling! I have used Natural Balance in the past but didn't realize they had a vegitarian formula. We may have to try if we can find it. |
