Puppy Chart was Spot on! I have known about the puppy growth chart since I got my first yorkie, Cash, more than 3 years ago, but I couldn't follow Cash on the chart because he was off the charts!! He is a whopping 10lbs all grown up and I love him for it. But when I got June, my 1 year old, she was a teeny weeny puppy at 21.5oz (600g). I could follow her on the chart and it was spot on! She is a healthy 4lbs adult, exactly as the chart said. I was wondering how often the chart is correct? How many other owners' puppies followed the chart? |
i don't follow the chart because it just didn't work for my babies...it told me carmel (1.8 lbs @ 12 weeks) would be 3.5-4 lbs full grown and now he is 8 months @ 5.25lbs. Emma (2.2 lbs @ 12 weeks) was charted to be 4.5-5 lbs full grown and she is 3 lbs @ 6 month. Forgot to add. either way though, I love them to death! 5 lbs is sturdy and a great size. I do hope Emma grows more though... |
All my yorkies followed the charts almost perfectly too. |
You know, I did not even think about looking at the chart! LOL I figured whatever happens, they both are still the cutest pups in the world!:p |
The charts said Apple would be 4 1/2 lbs. full grown, and if I feed her, exactly, what the instructions say on the raw food I feed her, she stays at 4 1/2 lbs...However, that looked a little lean to me, and the vet agreed w/me, so I give her 1/2 ounce, more, @ each meal, instead of one, and she weighs 4 lbs. 14 oz...So, I guess you also need to take into consideration how the pup looks...IMHO...lol... |
I couldn't follow the charts w/ Jackson cuz he was too big but I know they tell you to double the 12 week weight and he followed that exact. At 12 weeks, he was 6lbs, now fully grown he's 12lbs. |

I had never heard that but it's true for Tobie too. He was a little over 3 lbs at 12 weeks and he now weighs 6.3 lbs fully grown. I think the charts said he would be 5-5 1/2 lbs. |

Maximo grew a pound larger than the chart prediction and the general rule of doubling the weight at 12 weeks. He was supposed to be about 7 pounds, but he grew to 8.0. I weigh him regularly and if he loses a couple of ounces, he starts looking too thin. Teddy is a waif compared to muscular Maximo. He is supposed to reach 7 pounds. At 9 months old, he weighs 6 pounds, 6 ounces. Still have to wait and see if he achieves the predicted weight. |
With Cash I also doubled his 12 week weight, but he ended up bigger than that. He was 1.7kg at 12 weeks, but is more than 5kg fully grown. When he was a year old, he was about 4kg, but he was very, very skinny. So now, at 3 years, he is 5kg and very healthy. Sorry for the metric, I don't have the time to convert to lbs. :) |
It was pretty close. Chart said she would weigh 5.5 lbs and she is 5.1 lbs :) |
growth chart Chloe is my first yorkie... but my breeder told me that some yorkies will consistantly remain in one group on the growth chart and others will not - the ones that continue to fall into the same category will more than likely reach that weight. Chloe has always fallen into the 3.0-3.5 category. She currently weighs 2 lbs, 1 oz at 18 weeks, but she did not eat well for a couple of days when I attempted to switch her to TOTW. She had been at 2 lbs, 6 oz previously. She is very short though and is healthy looking for her age... |
