luxating patella way more posts then I can read! Okay so there are tons of posts on this I am aware and will be going through them as time goes on, I have noticed a lot are going for surgery and after surgery with well wishes..so this will take me some time... here is where I am at... Karma had her first vet appt today as part of being in my home new now. the vet said that she had luxating patella degree one. I am new to the whole yorkie thing plus this luxating patella thing. She told me that i pretty much had nothing to worry about. I have read some posts online about natural ways to help her live without any trouble I guess my question is any good sites you recommend? is what the vet said true? what things should I watch out for? am i going way over board here lol? |
Luxating patellas are graded from 1 to 4, with 4 being the worst. any good sites you recommend? You'll probably find about as much info as you need right here, or from your vet. is what the vet said true? I think so. Ruby has had a Grade1, is 4 y/o and never had a problem. what things should I watch out for?Do not let her jump on/off furniture to prevent further injury. am i going way over board here lol?LOL...no more so than any of the rest of us! |
Thank you!!! good i am glad i'll find the info here! lol thanks so much! |
My vet told me that puppies knees can be loose so there really is no need to worry. Grades 1 -2 usually do not require surgery. Grades 3 and 4 do not necessarily mean surgery either. Talk with our vet about supplements...good to start early if you know that there may be a lp issue. If you can, have stairs or ramps so your little one does not have to jump. If you should have to have the surgery, make sure to get a board certified surgeon who is well versed with small dogs. Ask all and many questions and make sure you fully understand what is happening. Don't let the vet or surgeon "talk" you into anything, a 2nd opinion is always a good option. Best of luck to your little one. :) |

as far as surgery goes if i have to do it, we have K-State here and they are very good. My vet works side by side with them as well. |
