Rawhide alternative I recently learned that rawhide was not safe. So, I have been to PetCo in search of some new chews for Nick and Daisy. We got beef rib bones, pork ears and a pork femur bone. The labels say they are all natural and made in the USA. When we got home, I gave both dogs a rib bone. They took it, licked it and then just pit it in their bed. So, I tried the pork ear. Daisy ATE the whole thing in about 30 minutes. Is this normal? I wanted a chew toy - not a food treat. Daisy is chewing on the rib bone now but the label said bones may splinter causing injusy. Has anyone had trouble with natural bones hurting their pups? Others have reccommended himalayan chews but I'm not positive what they are. Plus, they seem pretty expensive. I need somehting that Daisy can't EAT and that won't cost me a fortune to keep a supply of - any suggestions? |

Himalayan Chews are good... they are a bit expensive BUT they last longer then anything else AND are very safe. Bully Sticks are also a good option...they are very safe for these little guys. |
I use the cow hoofs. They are a bit smelly but my guys love them. They last a long time too. |
Bully Sticks and Himalayan Dog Chews! They're both safe; the bully sticks are not as long lasting but they're much cheaper. |
I always keep bullies, antlers and himalayan chews stocked...Lola love too chew!! YT member AMD has the best bullies and the best price :) |
Jackson gets bully sticks and Himalayan chews. Yes, they're more expensive but they last sooo much longer. I get a 12" bully stick from Pet Valu for about $3.99 and they last Jackson for 7 days. The Himalayan chews are around $7 (I think?) for a medium chew and those last Jackson for about 3 weeks. When I used to get him pig ears, they were gone in about 30 minutes, LOL... I don't buy them anymore because he just walks around the house whining with them trying to find a place to bury and they're high in fat. |
I don't think I will get pig ear again. I didn't know they were high in fat but I don't want something Daisy can eat so fast. I saw bully sticks at the pet store but didn't get any. I guess I need to suck it up and just pay the money for some! Thanks for all the responses. |
