Puppies First Heat Hi everyone :) My little Yorkie is almost 7 months old now and I know she could come into season any day. I have decided not to have her spayed just yet and was wondering what the important signs are. I read somewhere that smaller dogs can be more difficult to detect that they actually are in season. At the moment she is staying indoors during the day because our fence is being fixed. Even tho our neighbours dog is neutered I am fully aware of how far a male is willing to roam is he smells she is in heat. My parents were going to breed with their miniature Schnauzer a few years back and just as she was ready a cross breed dog jumped their 8 foot wall to get to her! After that she has to be spayed and have the pups aborted straght away because the male dog was huge & the vet said she could die giving birth to such large puppies. I know it's very important to only mate a female Yorkie with a male that is smaller than she is and I would like to have a litter in future when she is over 2 years old. Any recomendations are welcome :) Do they need anything extra during this heat period such as vitamins or anything? |
Her vulva will swell, she may lick herself more, and eventually spotting are all signs of heat. |
