need to know if I put a teaspoon of canned tuna in dog food..will that be ok?

Yes. Mine likes tuna occasionally, too. She also likes cottage cheese.:D

She will be fine with a lil bit of tuna. I would just use it in small amounts. :animal36

Stay away from canned fish like tuna and salmon. They are way too high in sodium for our dogs. Those pouches are just as high in sodium. Much too hard on the kidneys and other organs.

If you want to add a little something, why not cook some chicken breast and add that?

I do boil chicken but heard they need fish too?

Some yorkies who are allergic to lots of foods do well on fish, but most yorkies don't need it, it would be very hard for a dog to catch a fish in the wild. If you are using a balanced food, you don't need to add anything.

I hadn't thought about the pups going fishin' lol...But that sure makes sense...I don't feed mine fish, because of the mercury/cadmium/lead, etc...I figured beef/chicken/turkey/venison/rabbit/bison was a broad enough spectrum...Perhaps the person in this thread is concerned w/omega 3 fatty acids...I believe you can give your pup about 1/4 tsp. of fish oil, if you want to...I, actually, buy mercury free salmon, from Vital Choice, and when I have it (once or twice a week) I give my pups 1/2 tsp. each...Omg'sh do they ever love it...And, I figure they're getting a nice dose of omega 3's

You can buy one large tuna steak and baked it. Then break it up in many pieces and freeze them in portions. That tuna steak will go a long way for one Yorkie.

As Nancy said, if you are feeding a prepared commercial diet, it is nutritionally balanced and you don't need to add anything.
