Question about doing a rotation diet. How often do you rotate their food. Do you get a different food for every bag? What size bags are you using? |
I rotate Sasha's food after every bag. It works very well for her and she tolerates the changes very well. I change the food after every bag as well as the flavor. It sounds silly, but I actually made a chart with the different foods that I use in her rotation and mark off the ones I've used already as well as keeping track of the major protein source of that bag, that way she gets variety and a different protein with each bag. I buy the smallest bags, so usually a 5 or 6lb bag. This has worked the best for Sasha and now she looks forward to her meal times. |

To be honest, I'm not really sure. Hopefully someone else can answer that question for you. I've heard people switching at that age and I've heard people switch when they're at least a year. I didn't switch Sasha to adult food until she turned a year old (literally) but then again around that time, I was still learning about foods and such. I probably could've switched her sooner when I look back at it, but she did just fine the way I did it. I would think it's ok if you think he's done growing. |
I would wait to switch to adult food until closer to a year. It will also depend on what brand you use. |
Okay, I have one more question. Once you have introduced a food once, do you have to always introduce it slowly or can you just jump right to the next bag? |
I rotate my baby's food every month. I rotate between brands and flavors... three at time, one from each food group of Poultry, Red Meat, Fish. I always mix a bowl of 50/50 each time to switch, but the new food always gets picked out and eaten first. :p |

I rotate between several foods, but just have three that I have at once that I rotate through until they're gone, and choose another three. I try to staggar the foods so that there's new variety more often. I usually don't stay within one brand. For instance, I rotate Instinct Duck, EVO Red, and Wellness CORE. I don't always have the three food groups bc I'll get a bag of food if I find something really cheap or free, but just try to keep a nice variety. I know it sounds complicated, but I just try to replace red meat with red meat, poultry with poultry and fish with fish...for the most part at least. :p You could always rotate the flavors, switching up after each bag...if that's what works for you. I got started with having several foods at once bc I got a bag of Instinct free and Wellness for a good price, and I had EVO that I was feeding, so I just decided to switch up every month. Then replace what I run out of. Hope that helps answer your questions. :D There's really no *wrong* way to rotate, so you have to find what works for you. One thing with the rotation diet is to be sure to keep some proteins that you don't introduce in case you have allergies later on. |

Has anyone tried Halo spots stew for their puppy or dog? Kobe in the last few weeks has not been interested in eating his Orijen Puppy food. I am not sure if this is cause he is bored with it or now that he is 7 months that he just doesn't want to eat right when he gets up in the morning. I switched him slowly on the Halo Spots Stew wild salmon this past week. (Which I chose the Salmon flavor in hopes he would not find his poop tasteful and stop eating it). I haven't yet allowed him to have a moment to taste it yet. lol Even though he has new food, he still does not want to eat right when he wakes up. And today makes 2 mornings that he has puked up a tiny bit of clear mucus after going potty in the morning. Not sure if he is eating some weed out side. He is always putting something in his mouth.I have read that can be due to being hungry yet he doesnt go eat. I do give him baby carrots for snacks 2-3 times a day and he eats and plays with them. I usually feed him 3-4 oz of food twice a day. But lately he just eats 2 oz and waits till lunch time and eats the remaining oz. Dinner he usually eats it all. He has been on Halo 100% since this Thursday. Thanks for any suggestions Also, Does anyones puppy loove to be outside and just sit and watch the world go by? Kobe just loves to be outdoors. Of course we live in FL so the weather permits this especially since it is not that hot right now. I am sure once our summer gets here being that Kobe is black he will not like being out there as much. |
Please help with rotation Hi, I am thinking about rotating food also. I really want to do it. Hannah gets bored quickly. I am also trying grain free blends for the most part. She seems to have a bad case of the itchy scratchies. Can you tell me if I am doing the rotation right or rather if i have the right idea. I think what I'll do is provide an example of what I think is the correct way and hopefully someone can chime in and let me know if I am doing it correctly. I bought the "sample size bags". They are around 2lbs each. So, if I do the following, will I be providing what is best for her and her system I currently have in stock evo turkey and chicken merricks grammys pot pie before grain salmon Do I feed her all of one bag then change to the next bag - Feed her 100% evo until the bag is near empty then do 50% merrick's and 50% evo. When the evo runs out Do merrick until the bag is running low, then start adding 50% of before grain or or Do I mix the first two 50% of evo and 50% or merricks then when evo runs out do 50% merricks and 50% before grain. Which is healthier- feeding all and then switching or mixing foods while switching? I also ordered that sample box from Luke's All natural pet food. It has a great selection! How do I implement samples into her food with out screwing up her digestive system? |
