bully sticks, greenies... Allie is 7 months & 6.4 lbs. and I am afraid to give her any type of edible chewie. I gave her a tiny greenie before and she put the whole thing in her mouth, I thought is was stuck ( she looked like the Joker from Batman) and got all nervous and took it away I was being a little neurotic as my husband calls me, but I didn't want her to choke. I hear people on here talk about bully sticks, is she old enough for something like this? Will she be able to chew and swallow it? I also read that when you give them treats like this it can replace a meal. But like my human kids I want them to eat their real food first before any treats. I want her to be able to enjoy something different every now and then, should I just relax and let her be a dog as my hubby would say??!!!:D |
Allie, My Yorkie is 6.5 lbs. She is 2 years old. I do give sometimes greenies. I cut the 'petite' size in half. I only give her 1 full greenie a month. I do watch her while she eats it to make sure nothing happens. I too worry too much. I hope that this helps. Good Luck with your baby. :) |
Chews are great for their teeth. I give mine bully sticks, deer antler, and Himalayan chews. The deer antler and Himalayan chews last MUCH longer than the bully sticks, and I love how they don't have an offensive odor to them. Once they get chewed down to about 1", I throw them away because it could be a potential choking hazard. |
I also wanted to add that I don't give Greenies to Ariel because I've read that they don't get digested properly and has caused problems for many dogs. However, with whatever chew you decide to give to your furbaby, it is always recommended that they are supervised with the chew. |
Hi Himalayan chew, antler and bully stick are all great item to help with big chewers. I would not replace a meal with any of these...they still need a complete meal 2-3 a day :) |
