Ahhhh I got hydrogen peroxide in my dogs eye by mistake!!!!!
 
It fell on him and I think some got in his eye! I washed his face and eyes with water.
When it fell in his eye I looked at it and it was a little red and then I washed it with water. The redness has gone down and is not really red now. What should I do.
Im scared it might cause damage to his eye and the vet is closed today

As of right now he is running around acting normal. But im still worried

I was thinking that you could call poison control and ask them or on the bottle of hydrogen peroxide what does it say? Is there a number to call. I am just worried if it will cause damage to the eye.

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE SOLUTION 3%

Eye Contact:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention immediately.

Everything I have read on a quick internet search also suggests clean the eye with cool water and get to a vet.

Thank God you answerd this is so immportant!!! I had no help for her and I was worried for her lil ones eyes.

O My I don't think he is going to let me run water i his eye for 15min. I did run the water on it though.
His eye is back to normal now and i been reading online and people have gotten it in their eye and seem to be fine. A contact company uses peroxide for people to soak the contacts in and people mistakenly get it in their eye. Well thats what I read:rolleyes:

Okay, while this might be true why would you chance it...If you really want to test this out put some in your eye and then flush it..I am not being sarcastic...but I would hate to have your little one lose his eye sight.

I also read what you read but it was in humans and anything I read on dogs said was to get it to a vet.

yes but see the vet office is closed today

call the er vet and ask them over the phone they usually will tell you if they need to get in asap that is what i always do to be safe.

There must be an emergency one open? I don't know..I use peroxide for everything and have always felt it was safe...but this scares me until someone who really knows comes along..

IMHO, I would put some water in a clean dropper bottle and just make sure to get under the upper and lower lids.... and when you think you've done enough, give him a break but go back and do it some more. I did get H2O2 in my own eye once, it does burn a bit and getting water in there cuts the strength of it immediately. The problem is that he can't tell you if it has stopped hurting.

Well his eye is not red anymore. Could that be a sign that everything is of.
How long ago was it when you got it in your eye

:thumbup: I would rinse more than once, as above. You can also rinse w/ a saline sol'n to normalize.

If it was my dog, I'd also always call an ER vet, just for consultation, even if all they say is "what you did is right, no need to come in" - like those above have described.
