Yorkie drags his bottom BEFORE going to the bathroom This is my first post here. I bought a male yorkie puppy two days ago (this is my first dog), he is four months old, and the last two days, he's dragged his butt across the floor before going #2. I did a little research, and I've seen talk that this may be indictitive of either worms, a scent gland problem, or just a bottom that isn't quite clean. But all the websites that I've seen have discussed this happening after going, not before. I have a vet appointment scheduled next week, and I plan on asking, but I wanted to ask if anyone could weigh in on this. I hope I don't sound too neurotic, but this is my first puppy and I want him to be healthy and happy. Thank you! |
To me it sounds like his anal gland. Hopefully someone will come along and give their opinion on the matter:) Congrats with your new furbaby. |
This is definitely a very positive sign of worms in puppies. Younger puppies usually do not have a problem with their anal glands. I am sure at his first visit they will check a stool sample to see if he has any worms. Sometimes you can see them in their poop, especially if they are tape worms, or attached to the fur around his anus. Tapes look like little rice grains. Hope this helps. |

Elliott went to the vet today, and got a clean bill of health. He stopped the dragging thing a few days ago. It looks like I was only worried about an itch. Thanks for the responses. |
Welcome to YT, and glad that the vet resolved any questions. It is just comforting to know that a doctor has looked them over when something like that is going on. |
My Olive drags her bottom sometimes, too, but I got her checked at the vet and they said everything is A-Okay. Maybe she just has an itch? |
Alfie does that too sometimes and no worms. At least when I see him do it I know to put him in the garden straight away. |
