quick question about nature's variety raw (what color is it...?) I just bought some of the nature's variety raw (beed) for my puppy and its sort of gray colored (definitely not red like the picture/beef)--it looks like the freeze dried one.. I just wanted to check thats normal, thanks. |
I have Lamb and Venison, and they're both grey. |
Thanks!...sort of odd they actually put an accurate gray picture on the freeze dried bag but on the raw one its these delicious looking little red patties in the picture. |
air makes it turn grey, that's why the inside is more flesh colored... |

It makes sense to me that the grey color your are seeing is the charcoal denaturant. Typically meat that is frozen is not oxidized yet -- that takes a day or two. Denaturant is used in meats that are unfit for human consumption, turning the meat grey and thus dettering humans from eating it. I know the Bravo pre-made I've used is that same grey color. I'm not sure about Primal but I know that Primal does NOT use denaturant. Either way, it's perfectly safe for your baby to eat! |
