please don't laugh...silly question Please don't laugh.. this may be a silly question. I have a friend who took her yorkie to get neutered this week, and they sent them home because he hasn't "dropped" yet. I use a different vet. I really don't think that Rucker has dropped yet either. They checked him a week ago when we were discussing having the surgery done, and the vet didn't say anything about not being able to do it or anything. Is it possible to do the surgery if they haven't dropped yet? |
Hello =) It is possible to have the surgery done if they haven't "went through puberty" LoL! My Micro Mini Dachshund was 6 months old to the day when I go him neutered and he hadn't dropped yet and my vet neutered him still. He said it was more like a spay because he had to go inside to extract them. But it can be done, may be more costly but it is possible! Hope that helps, and it wasn't a silly question, a silly question is the question you never ask! =) have a GREAT day! Xoxo! |
hi it happen to my chico and he fine :animal-pa |
How old is the pup? It is possible to do the neuter if his neutering parts don't drop, but it is a much bigger surgery. They would, in a manner of speaking, have to go in there and look for his testicles. Much bigger incision, much bigger surgery. Once the testicles have dropped, it really is a simple procedure and has a small "wound" area. Your friend could wait a while until his testicles descend to save her boy a little recovery time. Kaji wasn't neutered until after his first birthday and he doesn't know he's only "1/2 man." :D Please don't tell him, he likes being the man of the house. ;) |
I just called the vet... I am so upset. I had pumped myself up for this surgery, and now he's not going to have it. I can't believe the vet didn't tell me that last week when we were in! He's 18 weeks, and definitely hasn't dropped yet. They said just what you guys did...that it would be a much bigger deal and also more expensive. Maybe the vet thought that he would go ahead and drop this week, I don't know. He does have to go in tomorrow for a rabies shot, and I'm going to have them check him. They told me to just wait until he drops, and then make the appt. I wonder when that will be? |

Thank you guys! Thanks so much for your input. I know now that there is no hurry. I will wait several weeks and make sure he is ready. :) |

Went to the vet today... Went to the vet today to get Rucker a rabies shot, and yes of course he had already "dropped". He's just little! I couldn't even see them! The vet did say to give him a month to get bigger so that the surgery would be easier on him. I feel so stupid. :( |
I thought you weren't supposed to do rabies until 6 months old? |
another embarrassing question... Okay I know it is stupid but I still need to know. Do female dogs mark? My 12 week old female pee's a lot...sometimes a very small amount. It seems to me that it is every ten minutes! Is this normal? She's growing really well, eats good and drinks normally. I always leave fresh water out. |

The vet checked her for a UTI... negative. Next they will check for puppy vaginitis(sp?) But unbelievably I cannot get a urine sample from her! She pees on everything and we can't get a usable pee sample! We will keep tryin tho! Thanks, I guess it wasn't such a stupid question after all! LOL!:animal36 |
