cancer Does anybody by chance know what skin cancer looks like on a dog? |
it would have a discoloration of teh skin....... from what i understand, why does youre baby have skin cancer  |
1 Attachment(s) Not Schatzie - thank the good Lord above!! I am not sure if I am even allowed to ask questions or talk about dog's other than Yorkie's here ?? So, maybe my thread is not allowed. I also own Daisy (picture below)...She was dumped a few years ago on our door step and we took her in. She is our "outdoor country dog". Well, earlier today I was outside pulling dead plants off my upcoming spring bulbs and stopped to give Daisy some attention. She rolled over on her back and has about an inch wide round mass hanging off her chest about half an inch thick. It's description is black and leathery. Then I went to pet her ear and she has a huge lump beside her eye on her skull. (no tick i looked, somewhat squooshy (sp) feeling and seems to give her discomfort when touched). She is a Great Paranyese (sp) and my vet told me their life span is appx. 7 years and he guessed her to be appx. 2 when we got her. We have now had her oh about 4 years so Im guessing she is getting pretty old for her breed. |
I'm pretty sure you can talk and ask questions about any breed/animal you want :) As to the growth, it doesn't sound good, I would really get her to the vet. But I have to say - what a gorgeous dog!! |
i agree with amiee, beautiful dog and i think a vet should check it out. this is off topic but i always wanted a small dog and the biggest dog, lol. |
i dont know if this will help any but ill share anyways http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/greatpyrenees.htm |
it did mention they can have skin problems b/c of hot weather....and arkansas can get pretty hot. in the summer my other dog sometimes won't even get off the porch to pee b/c it's so hot she does what's she got to do and makes a beeline for the door. that probably doesn't help you too much though. |
well the black leathery one sounds like a mole (moles can be cancerous) also, the one by her eye doesnt sound good :( sounds a lot like the lumb my golden had on her back (it was cancer but she lived 4 years with it.... cancer treatment for dogs is very expensive and heartbreaking) |
Oh, on the contrary. All of you are always a help, don't underestimate yourselves! :D Yep, I figured anyway that Id be bringing Daisy into the vet. I wish I could find pictures of cancer in dogs on the internet as I have been looking. It's just that my tract record has been let's say, "less favorable" there. The last few time's I've gone in I have only received bad news. "A) you're Hailey, (Brussel's Griffon is all messed up and must be returned to the breeder, B) I am sorry, we tried everything we could do to save your Yorkie (Half-Pint), C)I am sorry, your Yorkie (Schatzie) has a hereditary disease but good news is we can fix her though is unbreedable and it's up to you to return her or not to your breeder." What is under D) for when Daisy goes in I wonder?? :( |
Ugh - well, I will be praying that it is fixable and not bad news. I'm so sorry you've had so many heartbreaking things happen :( |
cancer feels at first like a cist of fatty tissue under the skin, as time goes by the lump will grow in size but an animal can live for years with cancer without treatment...... with treatment the dog will be more than likely TEMPORARILY healed, treatment is not a 100% cure, in my experience it has only been a temporary fix, ....... i wish i had pictures to show you of our two golden retrievers that had cancer...... josies wasnt so bad (we opted not to treat her, she lived for years with it and eventualy died of canine distemper...... the cancer messes with the immune system and makes them more easily suseptibal to other disease and germs) ....... katies cancer we had treated and it grew to about the size of a bowling ball, it looked like a cows utter hanging underneath her belly with pussy boils on it..... this is when we had katie put down...... this is all my experience on cancer and sadly i have had a lot (both doggy and human variety) to deal with...... i wish you the best of luck with youre doggy and hope that it is not this serious |
