Help does Not Chew Kibbles
 
I got new food Orijen Red Regional and Polo loves it. But he is eating way too fast he can devour a bowl in 44 seconds not even chewing just swallowing the kibbles whole. Sometimes he will throw up everything that he ate:eek:

I need some help on what to do? I know this is not good for his stomach:thumbdown

My 4 month old doesn't chew either; I've heard this is normal. To slow them down, put a ball in the kibble, it will force them to maneuver around it, causing them to slow down.

You could also feed in small batches, giving only a little at a time during the duration of a few minutes. This is what I do.

This is exactly what Ariel did. How many times are you feeding him a day?

Rex is 10 months old and he dose the same thing.
It's only the few kibble that he will crack up all the rest he just swallows hole.
Thats if he will eat at all.
Surely thats not good for them .?? :animal36

That is how I slowed down Maximo and discouraged gulping. I put all of his food in a dish and move a few kibbles at a time to a plate, or I hand feed with trick training, or I put kibbles in the Kong. He chews now. The only downside is that most mealtimes are a game that require my interaction. We went from one extreme to the other. :p

I feed him two to three times a day. It depends if he does agility in the house or if he walks 2 miles then I feed him more.

You can put a ball in the dish or stones that are too big for him to swallow.
The other day at PetSmart, I noticed that they actually have a bowl that slows the eating frenzy down. It has a large raised area in the center of the dish, like an X, so they can only pick up one or two kibbles at a time.
