Changes in Eating Habits Hey Everyone, Just curious if others are finding this as well or if anyone else has some thoughts. I have a 4 year old yorkie who was diagnosed last June with microvascular displaysia. Hes always been freefed and never had a weight problem and has always been a healthy size and weight. Hes eating medi-cal vegetarian kibble since he was diagnosed last June and has been doing awesome on it. Anyways, in the last few weeks i've noticed hes in a hurry to eat. Eating everything in the bowl as fast as he can so i've stopped keeping it filled and split his food into two meals per day. Hes his normal self, not sickly, full of energy, playing and everything but has anyone had a free feeding dog all of a sudden change their habits like that? We live in Alberta so I was wondering if maybe part of it was boredom beacuse his personality isn't changed and hes pretty easy to read when he isn't feeling good. Just curious if anyone else has has this with their yorkies. thanks! |
I haven't free fed Roxy since she was quite young. She gets 2 premeasured feedings day. However how she eats those meals can change on a daily basis. Some days she will scarf it right down, others she will just mess around & eat a little at a time. All to often now she doesn't want to eat anything until late afternoon. That's not a big deal to me except when we are going to be on the go all day. I don't like her leaving the house on an empty stomach... especially on her days to day care. She burns just too much energy there to be running on an empty tummy. On those days I doctor her kibble w/a little can food to entice her to eat in the morning. What causes her changing eating moods is a mystery to me. Don't know if this helps, but it's my experience with Roxy. Hope you can figure it out. |
Thanks! yea its seeming like thats kind of how it'll be for now because he eats so much if its in the bowl and then his tummy is all bloated but in some ways I wonder if its counter productive because maybe now hes eating everything thinking he won't get more until later on. He was free fed up until a few weeks ago so it just seems odd. Hopefully he'll go back to normal. Goofy guy :o) Thanks for replying! |
