Need some advice I have a 2 year yorkie named Buddy he is a great dog, we have had our fair share of health issues, but currently he weighs 20lbs the vet says he needs to loose some weight but he also has a lot of muscle on him I have began to put him on a diet and I am currently feeding him Natural Choice and feeding him one cup a day but it doesn't seem to be working we try to get him as much exercise we can but we live in Nebraska and it is to cold for him to run around what can I do? |
Glad you posted this subject. Can't offer any advise as I'm having the same problem. So I'll be interested to hear what other YT's have to say. |
Hi and welcome to YT! One cup of kibble a day sounds like a bit much. Is that the amount recommended on the packaging? If it is a bit much, cut back on the amount a little. Also, any activity even indoors is better than laying around. If weather doesn't permit walking, playing with him (fetch, chase, etc.) will at least keep him active. I know it takes time for weight loss but with reduced amount of food and daily activity he should show some improvement. You might just want to bundle him up on those cold days and get him outside. I know we've got several yorkies on YT, living in colder climates that still spend time outdoors. |
Yeah the back of the bag actually says 1 1/4cups of food he does weigh 20lbs I just don't want to starve him, but he doesn't seem to finish the cup of food in a day. Also what is a good treat to feed them if you are trying to get them to loose weight for rewards |
Do you have a treadmill? You might want to train him on 1. Caeser Milan has excellent results with all kinds of dogs.Welcome to YT and good luck. Vicki |
Hi and welcome to YT. Look forward to seeing pictures of your little TEAPOT!!! We joke alot about teacups and teapots here and sounds like Buddy fits the teapot label....HAHA.... He has to be the largest one I have heard about. One of mine is hitting 13-14 lbs...Didn't you vet make any recommedations about a good food that Buddy should try... Does he get any human treats...or doggie treats. You might watch those as some can contribute to weight gain..We have several members that are great in the diet subject and I hope they see your post and will respond. If they don't I will look through some of the other post and find their names and you can post a priviate message to them. I just wanted to say welcome and wish Buddy alot of luck, I can't seem to get rid of my extra baggage either.!!!!! Sharon, Joey and Cabella |
haha yeah he is definitly a teapot I just can't seem to get his pic up but I am working on it he used to get human treats but I knocked that in the butt so not just doggy, my vet said to try iambs weight loss formula but it made him sick |
If you buy food from Petsmart and they won't eat it you can take it back. If you lose the receipt they will let you trade it out for another brand or other items you may need. I have read on here you can contact the companies and they will send you samples to try.. |
WOW awsome I didn't know that THANK YOU!! |
Welcome:angel::angel: |
Got some pics up in an album finally but can't get a profile pic up |
ok is 20 lbs wanting him to be at? I would feed about 3/4 a day for awhile to see if that helps. |

I didn't post this question. But was very interested in any response as I'm having the same problem. Glad to hear I can use green beans as filler w/no added calories. After cutting back on Tabathia's food, she still seemed so hungrey. She's like a human vaccum cleaner w/4 legs & hair. So hopefully the beans will help fill her up & lose weight at same time. Thanks |
