Best age to Neuter/Spay? I notice a gamut of ages. Whle I see some will not release a pup until it is fixed, even at 3-4 months. The breeder has it fixed. Some will let you decide when based on the contract. Is there a best age for yourkies? Our female Yorkie was fixed at 8 months as that is when our vet said would be a good age, and he also pilled some baby teeth as she was out. I waited until my Male Corso was 14 months as I wanted him fully developed, but that was my choice. What is the best way for a Yorkie? I think 3-4 months is too young, but I do agree unless you are going to try to Champion your dog that you should fix them. |
6-9 months is what I prefer. This is the time retained teeth are present as well, so you can kill two birds with one stone. |
For females, it's important to spay before they ever come into heat. If you do, you eliminate their chance of ever getting mammary cancer. If you wait until after the first heat, the risk rises to 8%. After the second heat, the risk jumps to 25%. |
after 6 months... I actully had the apt to get Castor Pollux neutered at 4 months and when i got to the vet i couldn't go through with it, he was too tiny-- the vet said that i could wait as long as i wanted. the trainer said that if i want to avoid undesirable behaviors that they should get neutered when they first start humping and marking. Castor Pollux humped and 6 months and then at 7 months we were in petsmart i turned from him to pet another dog and he marked me (gross) so he got neutered at 7 months. i'd go with behavior on a boy dog more than with age |
