My 2 month old yorkie won't eat.....HELP I got him on Saturday and he won't eat. He's just laying around, so I've been giving him the Dyne drops the breeder shipped with him. He's one of the smaller sizes, he weighed 1lb. 2oz., said to get up to 3lbs. He will just lick the food and then he's no longer interested. I purchased the same food the owner was feeding him. Royal Canine, babydog 30 and he's just not interested. He will drink some of his water. I know he could very well be nervous because he just lays around and shakes, but when I'm holding him he's fine. I tried hand feeding him, he just licks the food and then he's done with it. Any suggestions? Please help me. The vets office is closed today, so I was going to call tomorrow. Even though, the breeder had him vet checked before he came and he got his shots, I still need to be sure it's nothing else. Thanks in advance, Keisha |
yeah you should always have a vet check up when you get them - do you have nutrical is that the same as what you have -also pedialyte unflavored is good to have as well. Can you try mixing the food with a little baked chicken maybe that will entice him more - some others say on here little cesars even though not a great food no dog refuses it so maybe mix a little of that in there if not chicken as you need to get him to eat as he is very tiny also 2 mos is way too young to let a tiny pup like that go :( i believe it is 12 weeks or more for a tiny like that so not sure this breeder is very good letting a tiny go at that age :( |
I know some people frown on this.......but I would put wet food on my finger and let Pixie lick it off. the first week she was not really interested in food so that is how I got her to eat. Also I would give your baby some nutrical if it is not eating so it doesn't get hypoglycemic. Congrats on your new baby!!;) |
if he is only 8 weeks old he needs his food to be grinded in the food processor and mixed with goats milk, I do this until my pups are 10 weeks and I start introducing wet food mixed with kibble by 12 weeks they are wean off to kibble, and some mix wet and kibble to keep their interest in the food, kibble alone sometimes is very hard to chew for the babies. with this in mind please do the goats milk powder kibble mix and feed him, I do whatever it takes to make my pups eat,even the finger feeding if necessary. best of luck, Carmen in nj |
Thank you, I will definitely have to try those. He'll be 3 months on March 12th. I figured it was because he's been around a lot of other pups, having come from a pup farm, and now it's just him (without his brothers, sisters, and other little yorkie pups from the other yorkies). |
