White flakes Hi..I bathed my babies last night for their weekly bath. I use what the vet sold me - "Epi-soothe" - it's supposed to be oat grains, soap free. Anyways, this morning when I took them out to walk/play in my backyard, they were having so much fun rolling in the grass and mud...next thing I know they are COVERED in mud and wet grass. I let them play and brought them back in and gave them another bath. I think I may have made a mistake in doing that because after their bath I noticed white flakes on their skin - what did I do? I'd appreciate any input - also, I am wondering if their brush is too rough - can I get a brush recommendation ?? Thanks :) |
Joey's breeder said to look for white flakes, and it was a sign that I wasn't rinsing thoroughly enough. She said that most people skimp on this step. She also recommended using a good cream rinse/conditioner. You are not just conditioning the hair, you are conditioning the skin. She recommended the Biogroom products, and you can get a free sample by emailing the company. Bio-Groom - Exceptional Pet Care Products for Over 30 Years The products are very concentrated, you have to dilute them. So far, no white flakes! Remember, that just because something doesn't contain soap, it still contains "detergents" and these are different than soaps, but can be just as harsh on the skin. Rinsing is still very important. Did your dogs have dry skin before the vet gave you the Epi-soothe? I like the Madan pin brush. |
No white flakes until this a.m. ever..I wasn't using a conditioner/creme rinse - I am going to try these products...so the white flakes are not anything signaling illness - right? |

Love the bio groom shampoo! Great product! Like Nancy mentioned contact the company via email and request some sample. |
You mean you just bathed them last night and today another bath? I think it's not the shampoo, it's because of "daily bath", wait for a few days and see if the problem is still exist? Don't bath them until next week :) |

could be dandruff. what are you feeding? skin problems are usually associated with the wrong diet. |
We use Biogroom Oatmeal Shampoo and also the creme rinse every Saturday. Everything else I've used caused white flakes to appear. |

derby use to get flakes but now we shampoo his hair about once a month, and it's better. We also switched shampoos to something all natural and it's working wonders. |
Hi guys..thanks for the input - my puppies are on Wellness puppy foods :) I think that the flakiness is from dry skin - I really put a lot of effort into rinsing, I rinse and rinse and when I think I am done I rinse one more time to be sure...But I never used a creme rinse / or conditioner...I'm definitely not bathing them for a good week, and I'm getting them a new brush. |
