Dew Claws Hey everyone, I wanted to know if anyone knew if dew claws can grow back? The breeder told us that the puppies had their dew claws removed when their tails were docked. We just got our little guy about 3 weeks ago; he's six month old; and we noticed a dew claw today! We haven't noticed it until today but aren't sure if it was just an oversight or if it actually wasn't there. It's kind of hard to believe that we'd miss it because we are always brushing him and playing with his paws. Anyways, I just wanted to see some opinions before I call to have "a word" with the breeder. Thanks! |
if they arent correctly removed (meaning they dont get it all) they can grow back! |
Thanks! That makes sense. It's only on his left paw. I had a family dog that accidently had hers ripped out when she was a puppy so I'd rather have them gone. We are going to speak to the breeder about paying to have this done. |
My little girl has one and we chose not to have it removed because it doesnt cause any issues. Was your pup already neutered? if not, doing it at the same time is best because then they are only under once. |
Thor has all his dew claws and it's no biggie. It's just another nail to clip. It would be nice if they had been done properly, but at this point, it might be better to spare your dog the pain of having a mature claw removed. |
My vet missed a dew claw on one of my puppies a couple of years ago. the new owners had it removed when they had her spayed. |
It sounds like the breeder didn't get the root out when they removed them. You just need to keep it well clipped so it doesn't grow round & pierce the skin. xx Meggie |
I actually asked this question I think in the breeder section, My vet will not do this unless they are new born, the pain is similar to us having a finger removed... It is really painful to do when they are older, please reconsider!! My pup has hers they are fine , just have to clip them.. There are lot of vets that will NOT do this procedure when they are older due to the pain... |
Reesie has all of his. Never been a problem for him. |
