excessive urination
 

Hi! I was out at work for about 5 hours today and my 14 week old Biewer was home alone. My roommate came in for 30 minutes and played with him. When I got home, he had peed like 3-4 times on the paper in his pen, but otherwise all was normal. Now he has peed like 15 times in an hour. He peed on my bed (which he NEVER does, he has been up on my bed since I got him 3 weeks ago and he always goes down the steps, pees and come back) and he is dripping pee all over while he walks. I am concerned something is really wrong and I just wanted to get opinions on what I should do. Its night here in Germany so I wouldn't be able to get him to my normal vet until morning, but should I take him to the emergency vet tonight? Its my first dog that's all mine and not my family's dog and I am just nervous that I will make a mistake and something bad will happen.

Just a note, I did think that maybe he was doing this, all this peeing, to get my attention, as I was gone longer than normal, and I went right to the kitchen and made dinner when I got home (he was in there with me). He usually gets treats for peeing on the paper, but not for anywhere else. When he starting dripping without actually peeing, that's when I got concerned something was really wrong...

I forgot to mention that when I went to check his underside to see if anything was red or inflamed, I noticed that his testicles had dropped (which is a new thing, they weren't dropped as of 2 days ago). Could this have something to do with the peeing?

Dog's don't pee to get even. They don't have those instints.
I would call the vet, it sounds like a uninary trac infection and
can be cleared up with meds.

Hi just seeing this..how is your baby? My Biewer did the same thing when I first got him..I never saw a dog pee so much.:eek::rolleyes: He drank so much water but it was only during the day. He was holding it at night so that told me to bladder infection. We still took him to the vet and he said the protein in the food we were feeding him was way too high which in turn makes them drink more water, which in turn makes them pee more..lol. He was on a 40%+ protein (NV Instinct) so we switched him to the NV Prairie which is around 23%. Our vet said to stick between the 20-30% range and once we switched we saw the problem decrease a lot.

Thanks for the tips, all is well again with Hepburn. I took him to my vet and she said no infection, but that it might just be that he is trying to hold for too long and that's irritating his bladder (aka he is actually getting the whole potty training thing, I am just not taking him out often enough and he is trying hard not to go in the house!) This was actually good news rather than bad, so I have been taking him out two more times a day and it seems to have solved the problem. She also said to switch his diet to a higher quality food or a raw diet, so I am doing 50% acana in rotation and 50% raw meats, bones and organ meat (B.A.R.F.) and that has really helped not only the urinating issue, but he mood, stomach issues, mild itching and other things he had issues with that weren't serious, but could have gotten worse if this website hadn't educated me so well in quality food and reading labels.
