My yorkie is isolating himself from us!! Louie is 2 yrs old and weighs 8 lbs. For the past three days, he has not been his usual playful/cuddly self. Before, he would always be curled next to me or on my lap or playing with his toys. But lately, he's been isolating himself from me and my husband. He is constantly in the bedroom by himself - just laying on the ground. When I try to play with him, he doesn't even acknowledge the toy ... and sometimes just walks away. He's not as enthusiastic about eating as he used to be... but he does finish his food. I don't know what is going on. He doesn't appear sick. And he attend doggy daycare every weekday (for a year now)... and he does fine there. What is going on with him?? I'm so worried :aimeeyork |
I would take him to the vet and have him checked out. My Daisy isolates herself when she is not feeling well. It could be something he ate and has an upset stomache. I hope he feels better soon. |
Is he pooping and peeing okay? |
Hoping he feels better soon |
Isolating themselves is a sign of pain, it's about the only symptom Joey had when he had an eye ulceration, his eye looked fine. I'd take him to the vet. It's odd that he's himself at the day care, but dogs instinctly understand that they cannot act sick around other dogs, they know that a predator might get them. |

Yeah, Louie is pooping and peeing regularly. Whenever I gave him a snack he would be so excited and would do every single trick he knew ... but I just tried giving him a treat and he didn't do anything. He just took the treat and took it to eat by himself in the bedroom :( Maybe I'll wait a week and if this behavior keeps up, I'll take him into the vet :( |

I wouldn't wait either. Maddie was doing this and I took her to the vet. The first thing he said when I descibed her isolating behavior was, "She is pain, let's find out why." Come to find out she had a severe inner ear infection, she was showing no other signs except her behavior. I think you'd feel much better if you try to take your little guy to the vet asap.:) |

I thought he was napping in there. Is he isolating himself or just maturing (he is 14 months)? He is maturing in other ways. Should I worry? |

These are places she NEVER goes, so I would not think Maximo is isolating himself either. Just sounds like mommy's boy is growing up. Just watch for NO PARENT'S ALLOWED signs to be posted in his tent. LOL:p |
You shouldn't wait to take Louie to the vet, Animals do tend to go off alone when they are sick. I hope it's nothing serious, but it's better to find out sooner then later, for his sake and for yours. Good luck. |

Yeah, I would feel much better if I took him in. I think I'm gonna call the vet tomorrow morning :( He's really worrying me. The only time he would come into the living room (w/me and my husband) is when he needs a drink... then he runs back into the BR. We tried calling him and squeaking his toys, but he didn't respond at all. I'm starting to think that he might be sick or depressed. Hopefully a visit to the vet will make him feel better  Thank you everyone for all your suggestions!! |
Good luck with your lil one, I hope the vet can help you. And maybe the daycare person can't see how different he is there? I'll be thinking of you and your pup. |
