Help please food issues Ralphie has been eating Wellness for puppies for about three months now. He is 7 months old....and all of a sudden a week ago he just started eating less. I cooked some boiled chicken and mixed that in with his dry food. I also mixed in a spoonful of cottage cheese...and he gobbled it up. Can I give him this mixture everyday? If not what else can I give him to mix with his food. If nothing is mixed in, he eats like half of his food. He is between 8-9 lbs and eats a cup of food a day. WWYD? |
You are the second person today that has had a puppy around 7 months on Wellness Puppy that has gotten bored with the food. I wonder what is going on with that? LOL!:p I posted awhile ago about this and some one suggested a rotation diet so the puppy does not get tired of a certain food. I'm going to pick about 3 foods and rotate between them. Here is what I posted on another thread earlier today. Hope this helps some.:) I'm so glad you posted this. Reesie is 7 months old and he started going through the picky eating thing when he was 6 months also. He was also on Wellness Puppy.(Hmm? I wonder what the connection is here? ) Anyway, I am in the process of switching him to Orijen Puppy. He loves it! He used to let his food sit all day and then would eat at the very last minute before bed time. Would drive me crazy! Anyway, once I introduced Orijen to him he gets all excited when it's time to eat. I started him out on 25% Orijen and 75% Wellness. At first he would pick through the food and eat all the Orijen and leave the Wellness. Another YT member suggested that I take his Orijen and moisten it enough to make a paste(I measure out enough Orijen ahead of time and let it soak in the water and set it aside for the next feeding) and then mix it in with his Wellness. This way he still tastes the Orijen and eats all the Wellness. Yes, Orijen has the bigger kibble. It is probably about twice the size as Wellness. Hope this helps. __________________ |

I've heard it is not good for a pups tummy to mix grain-free with grain-in. It doesn't digest the same and it can cause stomach upset. I don't know first hand as I have never tried grain-free. That is just what I've heard... I order my kibble from k9cuisin.com and I noticed a new food on there the other day called Rotations. It is a rotation diet that gives you three different kibble in one box. Here is the link: Rotations Pet Products - Dry Puppy Food - Free Shipping I looked on the company's website and it says they were voted best new food. The ingredients look pretty good, too. Plus, they say you don't need to transition - just go from bag to bag. If you are looking for a rotation diet, this might be the easiest way to go. |

Rotations Adult Dog Food Feeding System Has anyone tried Rotations Dog Food? I happened to be looking around funnyfur.com and found it. Then, when I did a search here, I see rachelanne820 had posted about it. |
You may just be feeding him too much... mine only eat 1/2 cup per day... 1 cup sounds like a lot... he may be growing out of the puppy stage where he needs a lot of food to keep up with his growing. I like to have mine on a kibble that they will eat plain with no add ins...but you can still add things in like cottage cheese, green beans, yogurt (plain), sweet potatoes. |
